We just received word that the attack on Sharon is still ongoing.  As usual, after the first few comments were left by people supporting Sharon, the bullies, doing what they do best, moved in and hijacked Sharon’s post.

One comment by Anon2:

It has been kicking off on Sharon Desruisseaux GR blog the last two days. STGRB gave great advice when you say don’t reply to the trolls. I tried to encourage Sharon not to reply to them, but they were coming on in droves and drawing Sharon etc. into a fight! Thankfully Sharon has now said that she is going to ignore them from now on.

These trolls spread so much poison, they will do anything to draw people into a fight. The only way to deal with them is to ignore them, it takes two people to argue. Its best to leave them to argue with themselves!

Thanks for all your wonderful advice! In the past I would have been in there fighting back, but now I see that only makes things much worse.

Two comments by Anon:

Omg! These trolls really need to get a life! They’ve swarmed in on Sharon’s blogs and are up to their usual nonsense again.

Here’s another good one by Sharon:

She’s starting to get it:
When you feed them ANYTHING-they twist it against you and their game is won by damaging a person’s reputation and deflating them. This needs to stop. It is just not right in hurting anyone to the point where they can no longer write or go on this site.

We’re not going to bother with screenshots on this one.  If you want to go to the links, waste a good few minutes of your life, and read the bullies’ verbal diarrhea for yourself, you’re welcome to.  It’s their usual MO.  Attacking and baiting Sharon and her friends, twisting their words around, dragging them down into the muck, lying, telling her that our site is evil, that we did this and that, that we’re this and that, etc. etc.  Their usual lies with nothing to back it up.  It got to the point where Sharon just pulled out of the convo altogether to go work on her book.  And we think that was a good move.

Sharon, if you’re reading our site, the best thing to do with the bullies is to completely ignore them.  Have NOTHING to do with them.  Please take a look at our Do’s and Don’t’s For Victims page.  If you want to know who they all are, read our BBG page.  All these people are trying to do is drag you down into their black hole of ugly.  They are bitter, angry people who thrive on negativity and hatred.  We recommend deleting their comments and blocking them.  Don’t know how to block?  Well, just in case you don’t, if you go to their profile page and scroll down to the bottom, you’ll see a blocking link on the left hand side.  We know by watching what the bullies have done to others that this is absolutely the best way to deal with them.  Good luck!

An addendum.  Finally, someone who’s not afraid to tell the truth on GR:

Truth1

Truth2

Well said, Gillian.  You rock!

If there are authors out there who are attacking reviewers the way the bullies attack others, we have yet to see it.  If someone wants to give us a concrete example of this, with screenshots, we’ll publish it.

Twitter Stalker

Guess what, everyone!  We have our very first Twitter stalker.  This was the one who said that we had nothing better to do with our time.  The irony abounds.

And the Butthurt Troll Award goes to… *drumroll* …

Congratulations, Amanda!

New Developments

We published the post below on July 11, 2012 when our site was somehow found by Ridley and her “friends” (you’ll see how her “friends” turned on her when we post The GR Bully Meltdown 1 & 2.)  We hadn’t intended on this to happen as we were still in the middle of building it and collecting information.  We hadn’t planned to broadcast the site until August, but had to change our plans when it went viral.  Thousands of people began talking, tweeting, blogging and facebooking about it.  The bullies immediately started false rumors: that we were publishing people’s phone numbers and addresses, that we were physically stalking and threatening people, and that we were going to shut our site down.  Once they realized we had no intention of doing anything of the sort, they reported Athena’s Whois information to GoDaddy as fake information.  Athena tried to explain to GoDaddy that it was her real information, but they didn’t listen, so she changed it to her previous address and phone number.  Then, the bullies reported it again and again Athena tried to explain.  GoDaddy didn’t listen, so she just had the domain registration information privatized.  She did this not just to solve the bully problem, but also for self-protection.  And this is what really happened.  Any other “explanation” of why Athena privatized her Whois information is untrue.

The fact is that the bullies have been trying to get us shut down from the very beginning.  Why?  Because they don’t like being called out on their behavior.  They don’t like anyone hanging out their dirty laundry for everyone to see.  A perfect example of this was the time Looney wrongfully accused us of copyright infringement when we were well within our rights to fair use.  What Looney did was an abuse of the DMCA and proves that she can’t handle seeing anyone reveal the truth about her – about her lies and about her hypocrisy.  The evidence we presented apparently was too damning for her sensitive ego.

One thing you won’t ever see us do is make a claim without showing our readers what we’re talking about.  The bullies make claims all the time, but interestingly enough, they never seem to be able to prove them.  Why?  Because their claims are lies.  In the next few weeks, we are going to show you proof that these people lie ALL THE TIME.  We’ll show you concrete examples of their lies and the context in which they tell them.

But enough of this.  Here’s the post.

**************************************************************************************

We have had a busy week here at STGRB!  At the very beginning of the week, our site went viral, receiving 11,000 hits in one day.  We didn’t expect that to happen but are thrilled nonetheless.  More than anything, we are very happy about the fact that there are A LOT of people out there who are finally addressing the growing problem on GR that has largely been ignored.  This is exactly what we wanted.  We understand that there are some authors out there who react badly to reviews, but we have to ask ourselves: why?  Why is that these authors are reacting to GR reviewers the way they are?  Because they are just a bunch of crazy jerks who want to make people’s lives miserable?  Somehow, we don’t think that’s the case.  Another question to ponder is this: how is it that this bully culture has evolved and why?  If you feel that you know the answer, please, we invite you to come answer it for us.

We want to thank all of the people who have left supportive comments and messages, thanking us for our work.  You are all very welcome.  For those who have contacted us to ask for help because they are being targeted by the bullies, don’t worry, we have people working on it.

For those who left all the, uh, sweet *cough cough* comments and messages, we would like to welcome you to keep leaving them.  If you need an outlet, by all means, let it be us.  Will we listen?  No.  Will your comments get through?  No.  But you can still try.  Keep in mind that we retain all rights to your comments, messages, and electronic footprints you leave behind when you visit our site.  Just so you know.

As for the rumor about us shutting the site down, well, that’s all it is.  A rumor.  We don’t intend to shut down the site, nor do we intend to stop profiling bullies.  As long as the bullies keep doing what they’re doing, we will keep doing what we’re doing.

Now, onto other matters.  Last week, we posted articles everyday simply because the site was new and we had a ton of information to unload.  From now on, however, we will be posting weekly, unless something really big or interesting comes along that we can’t wait to share.  For today, we want to share this brief Q&A.  We’ve had a few questions come in from our Contact Us page.  Here are the answers:

Are you shutting down your site?

No, absolutely not.

Are you authors?

No.  None of us are.  Sorry, but we’re not “a group of butthurt authors seeking revenge.”

Where did you get the list of authors you support?

From .

Did you get the Peter Pan theme from the Wendy Darling/The Selection debacle?

Yes

Have you profiled Wendy?

Not yet.

That’s all for this week.  We have much more to come, so stay tuned.

Kat Kennedy

Below is the post we published on Kat on July 8, 2012.

**************************************************************************************

EyeGR Name:

Real Name: Kat K.

Category: Ringleader

Level of Toxicity: DEFCON 1, Maximum Alert

Out of all the GR bullies, we consider  to be the biggest offender.  Kat is one of the three ringleaders who organizes assaults on authors on Goodreads and on her Cuddlebuggery Book Blog (she is not the Godmother, however, of which there is only one and we will get to her on a later post.)  On each Buzz Worthy News post on Cuddlebuggery, there is a section at the end called Scandalous Scandals, where Kat and her cohort talk about the latest “author scandal.”  This usually sets the minions off onto a witch hunt for said author/s, and not so strangely enough, after each Scandalous Scandal post, the author/s mentioned is then stalked, terrorized, and humiliated until that author/s either retreats into the shadows or leaves Goodreads altogether.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, she has personally led several attacks on authors.  Of all of these, there are two that stand out for us: the attack on M.R. Mathias,  (update: M.R. Mathias is gone from GR now), and on Rebecca Hamilton, .  Both authors were attacked for harmlessly commenting on reviews.  Neither called anyone names or were hostile in anyway.  The attack on M.R. started on Goodreads and afterwards, Kat tweeted about him:

TrollMR

Then she included him in the Scandalous Scandals section of her blog post.  After that, it was then a free-for-all when the minions jumped in.

As for Rebecca, the attack actually began in the Absolute Write Water Cooler (remember what we said here about the overlap between GR and AW?)  When Kat found out, she wrote about it on her blog, again under Scandalous Scandals and it led to this comment thread that is – wait for it – 12 pages long!

If you are interested in reading the whole thing, be our guest, but here we will sum up.  Rebecca tried to explain her position.  Kat and the minions attacked with insults and jabs, twisting her words around and dragging her name through the mud with lies, all the time insisting that she follow the GR bully code of conduct which requires that all authors to remain silent.

Finally, one of the commenters, M, had something very rational and reasonable to say:

MsComment

To which Kat responded:

ApologyForNotBlocking

She proceeded to block M from the conversation, apologizing to the others for not having done it sooner, and then justified the action with this:

BogusArgument

Is that right, Kat?  You won’t stand for name-calling and personal attacks?  Well maybe you missed this one against Rebecca:

Insult

And this one:

Insult1

And this one:

Insult2

And this one:

Insult3

And this one:

Insult4

Gee, Kat, how come none of them were blocked from the conversation?  Oh, wait!  You didn’t block M because of personal attacks.  You blocked her because she presented you with a sound argument that you couldn’t answer.  Not surprising at all.

This is typical bully behavior.  If you disagree with the bullies and present sound arguments that they can’t answer, they will either attack you, dismiss you, or if they can, block you from the conversation.  They do this all the time.

So… to end this post, we have some great news:

Novel

She is going to be releasing a book!  This. Is. Fantastic!  Not sure about anyone else, but all of us here at STGRB will be eagerly awaiting the release of that one.

Amazon Bully Reviews

Per a site visitor’s request, we set up a twitter account for STGRB where we will be broadcasting new posts and anything else that comes along.  Our “Follow Us” button is located on the left hand side of our blog for all those who are interested.  The account is set up under “protected” so that non-friends cannot see our tweets, nor who is following us (some people have created anonymous twitter accounts, as an extra precaution, just to follow our twitter feed.  We recommend this if you are concerned about them stalking you.)  Funny thing is, the moment the twitter account went live, Athena discovered some rather hilarious tweets.

Tweet #1:

Disappear

Well, that’s it!  We’re gone from twitter now because Tammy can’t see us anymore.  *snort*  I suppose no one can really credit these people for being overly bright.

Tweet #2:

NothingBetterToDo

Within hours of our twitter account being set up, Amanda has “nothing better to do” than find out we’re on twitter, stalk us, and then tweet about it.  Oh, the irony!

We checked out both of these individuals and *surprise, surprise* guess who their friends are.  Yep, you know it.

Now, onto the Amazon bully reviews.  Just recently we received this comment from Anon-a-bus:

Link to an interesting bully review on Amazon someone told me about. At least this time two people commented and argued the point with the reviewer. I wish everyone would do this when they see bully reviews.

Here are screenshots of the review and the comments:

Review1

CommentsForReview1

We agree with Anon-a-bus.  More people should step in and let reviewers know in a polite way (well, as polite as they can be) that these types of reviews are inappropriate.  Any review that is not specifically about the book’s content and the reviewer’s opinion of it, is not an appropriate review.  Rating and reviewing a book you haven’t read, or bashing the author in the review, or writing anything other than a review of the book itself, for us, is considered bully reviewing.  However, not all people who write these kinds of reviews are bullies.  Some simply just don’t know.  Take , for example, that was found by Goronwy:

Review2

Comment1ForReview2

Comments2ForReview2

In this case, Nicole simply didn’t realize what she was doing until it was brought to her attention.  We want to make it clear that we don’t consider her a bully, only that what she wrote we consider bully reviewing.  Hurting an author’s book without any good reason.  It’s one thing if you read the book and don’t like it.  It’s another if you slam a book for no reason, or worse, to get revenge on an author whom either you or your “friends” don’t like.  This is what we hope to show our readers.  And in turn, we hope that they will educate others about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.
