It looks like the attack on Eve Thomas continues. As we’ve said before, the bullies never stop. They are constantly online (either on GR or Amazon) picking fights, trying to humiliate people, and wreaking havoc wherever they tread. Pathetic, isn’t it?
In this post, due to popular demand, we’ll be showing you the screenshots we have of the verbal diarrhea spewed by the harassing miscreants known as the Amazon Fora Trolls, whose collective IQ happens to total that of a 12-year old child. We hope no one loses any brain cells while reading. In the process, we’ll also be publishing the responses of the normal people on the thread. It’s not hard to tell which is which. The bullies’ hypocritical and unjustified pontifications are glaringly obvious.
(Please note, we do have an Amazon troll award for the most psychotic comment, but that comes at the end, so keep reading!)
First the conversation starts out rather smoothly with Gillian, Katy, and Sharon showing their support for Eve and Eve responding:
Then, the first Amazon troll appears (big surprise):
So Coaxial thinks she wasn’t bullying anyone or being nasty? Maybe she forgot about the comment she left threatening Eve with nasty reviews.
But this gets better, because… *trumpets sound* we have another troll who appears on the scene and compares naming and shaming to domestic violence (we know, we know, you don’t have to tell us):
Then Sharon and Gillian step in to correct Janet’s unfortunate lack of understanding:
This is when Eve’s rep steps in and takes over her account on GR to let them know an investigation is under way:
And how do they respond to this? Well, another Amazon troll moves in, HJ Leonard in this case, who doesn’t seem to understand that it’s Eve’s rep talking and not Eve. Remember what we said about their collective IQ equaling that of a 12-year old? This is what we mean:
We find it funny that HJ doesn’t believe that 87 people contacted Eve to point her to our site. It’s just proves their denial that they have enemies. A lot of enemies. HJ, if you only knew how many blog readers we get a day, you’d be surprised that that number was so low. But by all means, keep making fools of yourselves. Keep attacking people online and making enemies. It’s such a productive way to spend your time, ya know?
And here are some more messages and warnings from Eve’s rep:
But they don’t seem to get the message, do they? Because they keep coming. Like we said, collective IQ of a 12-year old… wait, no, that would be insulting to all 12-year olds. I take that back. The collective IQ of a rock. That’s better.
As to the “Sidebar Of Shame”, Juno left this comment on our blog. I just wanted to share it:
These bullies really are total hypocrites!!! The crap they have come out with over the last few days is laughable! If they could only see themselves the way we see them!!! It goes something like this:
BULLY – “STGRB is a terrible site, they stalk and harasses women!”
NORMAL PERSON – “Really? Where? Show me where STGRB do this? Hey Bully you are the one stalking and harassing women. Do you want to see the proof? See the screen shots above! You bully both authors and readers. You have destroyed many authors careers! YOU are the one dong these things!”
BULLY – “STRGB is mean, they hurt my feelings. BOO-HOO! They made a list of names including my name. They called this list Badly Behaving Goodreaders & Amazon Trolls. Listing peoples names is bullying! That makes STGRB bullies! My feelings are really hurt! Winge-whine!!!”
NORMAL PERSON – “Hey bully stop being such a cry baby! YOU have made a list of authors names on GR and Amazon, you have called your list Badly Behaving Authors. So in your own words that makes YOU a bully. These authors’ only crime was promoting their books, they didn’t bully or hurt anyone. Is it ok for YOU to make lists of peoples names??? But it is not ok for STGRB to make lists???”
BULLY – “A-HHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! *GROWL* You support THAT site! You are one of them! You are a woman hater! You are a child molester! I hate you! NOW!!! SEE WHAT YOU HAVE MADE ME SAY??? You have caught me out and now I must destroy you!!! I am going to email all my bully friends and get them on here to attack you!!! I’m going to log into all multiple troll accounts and I’ll attack you with ALL of them!!! I WILL MAKE YOU PAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
NORMAL PERSON – “Bully you are a whining hypocrite! I am going to ignore you from now on because I know exactly what you are up to!!! I rest my case!”
Okay, so, moving on. Eve’s rep steps in again:
Now… this is the good part, or I should say, one of the good parts. The next two screenshots are of particular interest to us. I almost choked when I read Zahara condemning doxxing. Why? Keep reading.
Do you know why Gillian blocked Zahara? Because we let Gillian know exactly who Zahara (aka Zahara Cerise) is. You see, they’ve met before. On Amazon. Here is Zahara on Amazon revealing her identity to HJ Leonard:
And guess what Anna Karenina did to Gillian? She stalked her and dug up personal information about her. Then she outed it to everyone on Amazon. But that’s not all. This gets better, or I should say, worse. She then threatened Gillian with other, more private information that she had discovered. We’re not at liberty to tell you what that is or show any screenshots. If you want to know more, you can ask Gillian. She has all the proof that Anna/Zahara did this.
Disgusting, isn’t it?
Here are a couple more comments from Eve’s rep to Anna/Zahara:
Now, we’re getting to the finale. To the Amazon troll award for the most psychotic comment which goes to Mahala Burlingame! First Mahala can’t understand why her comments are being removed even after Eve’s rep distinctly told the Amazon trolls that theirs would be.
And then Mahala leaves this:
Not just a little freaky, is it?
Then Mahala says she’s going to report Eve’s rep to GR:
Then Katy says:
Then:
You know, I think Mahala just likes to report people. Makes her feel special and important.
Finally, Eve’s rep blocks her and that’s the end of it.
But… the award still goes to Mahala. So, congratulations, Mahala! You’ve just won our most psychotic comment award! Good for you! You must be so proud.
But really, in all seriousness, we hope that Eve is alright, that the investigation goes well, and that these jerks are held accountable for their actions. If there’s anything we can do to help, we will. And if people (and GR) can’t see by now how deranged and dangerous these trolls are, then there is no point in posting this stuff anymore. It’s just getting ridiculous.
« GR Bullies Contact Eve’s Charity Authors Are Not Second Class Citizens »
I’m both disturbed and entertained by this one. For one thing, these crazies sure do know how to keep me laughing at their expense. But I also find them scary. Guns???? How did this person get a gun legally? Visiting the US with people like this wielding guns is getting to be a dangerous thing. There is a reason why Europe rarely has any reports of someone being killed by a gun, much less mass massacres – we have absolute gun control.
And I find it truly disturbing that they go after someone who has been abused, is in hiding, and they fucking threaten her!! You can’t get much lower as a human being than that. Threats towards someone who is already afraid for their life is lowest of the low. I hope Eve stays safe and stays strong.
I only recently discovered this site and it makes me really uneasy about using Goodreads. I commented on a thread earlier with a number of people named here and an author who I think has been the subject of a previous post . I’d hate to think that some other members could be seen as being tarred with the same brush for commenting alongside these people!
I’m also amazed that some of the comments that it appears Eve was subjected to were allowed by Goodreads. I have said it before and will say it again but they require more moderation not just to protect authors, but other site users and themselves.
More than that, Anon. They need Librarians and Moderators WHO ARE NOT the bullies themselves. Maybe this way the people flagging bully postings and reviews won’t be banned themselves just for reporting them. You know, gotta protect the fellow bullies!
Are some of the mods included here then? I knew a couple listed were librarians but I didn’t realise the site moderators also participated in this behaviour…
The more I learn re this the more I am apalled…
I just realized how my post came across, and want to apologize. Typical Goodreads moderators are over specific groups. While they have power within that group, they cannot ban someone from the site. Are some of the bullies Moderators of this type? Yes.
The Librarians also do not have this much power, although they do have more than the typical Goodreads users, especially concerning book listings themselves. Are some of the bullies Librarians? Ye.
The problem comes in that these bullies with these titles, then report so-called abuse. Who is believed? An author or regular reviewer, or these upper-class (usually very busy on the site) users? Or get a bunch of these upper-class users to bomb the violations flags?
I’ve searched and searched the Goodreads site for who has this power. How these things are investigated. How they can be repealed. No info so far.
Until both sides are looked at, and maybe someone in power and authority is honest about the attack patterns of the buliies, these type of banning-the-victim incidents will continue.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. It wasn’t my intention. Honestly, this continuing attack that Goodreads refuses to deal with has me upset. Not only for Eve, but also for the people these gangs will turn on next. This victimization needs to stop. When it’s the same people of the gang doing it, reducing a big chunk of it in one fell swoop wouldn’t be hard to do. It just takes someone in power to have the guts to do it (while knowing the gangs will regroup on other sites to tarnish THEIR reputation).
No worries, like I said I am new to this site and have only been on Goodreads itself for just under a year. But as I was bullied a lot myself at school I am amazed that it is allowed to happen.
That said, I did try and report another member for bullying others (stalking them etc) and the response I recieved was to block them – which I had already done but others hadn’t, plus blocking does not solve the issue.
It seems to me that Goodreads requires a more transparent process (sorry Law student!) in order for them to gain any credibility on this issue – as well as applying the rules fairly across the board.
They seem to deal with legal actions a lot more seriously (e.g the RP groups and 18+ debacle that occurred a few weeks back) so perhaps with Eve passing all the information on to authorities Goodreads themselves will sit up and take notice.
Any on-line community that allows active participants to moderate activities inevitably degenerates into a corrupt clique style community. Participants are either “in” with mods or do their best not to ingratiate themselves with the mods. People who are not “in” will always bear the burnt of any e-dust-up.
It is very hard to expect the average person to exercise sufficient impartiality to moderate a message board fairly.
Sadly, I don’t see any workable solution to this issue. I expect it will continue occurring in any e-community until certain rules and ethics are enforced in them. In the end, the clique takes over and other people either limit their visits or move on.
I’m spending much less time at Goodreads these days, and reviewing less. My primary motives in being there were sharing book recs and discovering other books/authors which might appeal to me. I have zero interest in reading about psychotic, dysfunctional men and women carrying on about non-existent insults and/or bad behavior from authors. I have zero interest in them. If Goodreads wants to attract readers, they need to control these idiots or get rid of them.
WOW! The gun comment takes this whole things to whole a new level! These bullies don’t know when to stop!
But stop the lights! Have you seen the latest? After hounding poor Eve for days Zaraha has now at last accepted Eves apology! All will be forgiving!!! (I guess the story on STGRB really got to Zahara/Anna!)
Oh hang on! What did you say STGRB??? Did you say that Zahara is Anna Karenina on Amazon forum??? WHAT?????
Ah now it all makes sense! Poor old Zahara/Anna must have been worn out last night from attacking people. because on GR she was busy accepting apologies BUT on the Amazon forum she was attacking another author, Look here is a link showing four pages of Zahara/Anna Karenina and her bully friends harassing a author on a book review he had written. They do this ever night on Ammy, they post links on the BBA thread and then they group together for the attack! It must be tiring to be a full time bully! (I hope its ok to post a link?) LINK:
Great coverage of this attack. I really hope Eve has contacted authorities.
Sorry but was it not coaxial, the grammar and English police who commented on Eve’s book in her review saying it was poorly edited? Now we all know that she didn’t even read the books, she freely admitted this but look at her mis spellings – hypocritical again!
I’ve had a look at Eve’s blog today and now hope they will leave her alone but notice that Eve is now being pursued on twitter! Really bullies do you honestly think you won’t be found? Ip addresses etc I hope all your family and friends are so proud of you when this all comes out!
Kind of ironic how in the news today a victim of DV has been shot dead and Eve was threatened with a loaded 38 yesterday! Ok no connection but it’s there for all to see that Eve is doing marvellous work. I have two words to sum up these abusers JEALOUS EMBARRASSED!
These people just keep getting worse and worse.
I think that Juno’s comment really makes sense, and sums up a good deal of what most people are thinking.
The bullying and the hate never stop, NEVER! I cannot understand why the bullies get upset when STGRB post about them? The are openly bullying people on the Internet daily! Do they think nobody notices their behavior?
Thankfully things have died down on Eve’s blog. The bullies comments are being deleted, so they had to give up the fight. But now their rage has turned to the Amazon Forum. They are still posting links on the BBA thread, then one-by-one the bullies all follow the link and bully whoever is on the other end of that link. It doesn’t matter where the link leads to, they will attack regardless.
Yesterday they ganged up to attack a author/reviewer on Amazon. Today they posted a link on the BBA thread that leads to another thread on Amazon. On the other thread people were happily posting away chatting about books that they love, its a really nice thread! Once the bullies linked the nice thread to the BBA thread the bullying started. The bullies piled onto the nice thread saying “your not allowed to do this” and “your not allowed to do that.” They’ve upset a lot of people. Who do the bullies think they are? It is not their job to police Amazon, if there is a problem then surely Amazon themselves can step in. Anyway there wasn’t a problem in the first place!!! Ugh!
Can the bullies not just take a step back to see themselves the way we see them? They are nosy! I noticed all the bullying on Goodreads and the Amazon forum a long time ago. I was so glad when someone directed me to STGRB. I was so glad to see that someone was doing something about this AT LAST!!! Goodreads and Amazon don’t seem to be bothered about doing anything about it. They only care about making money!
Good Job Stop The GoodRead Bullies Blog!!!
The BBA thread is something they started ages ago for the sole purpose of pointing out authors to attack and then mobbing them. But recently,a poster named Dog Lover has started a new practice: s/he starts a thread on the book’s own page attacking the author. Like this one
and this one
They really don’t like authors promoting their own work very much, do they? :-/
No. They act like it’s a crime worse than murder sometimes.
Well, since this site is always about how readers are so mean to authors on GR, maybe this thread will interest you; readers sharing stories of great interactions they had with authors on GR: . It’s the “other side”, so to speak.
Are you fucking kidding me? Took me all of five seconds to get pissed off reading that thread. Who the hell are readers to tell authors how to/how not to behave?? And check boxes for authors before being ‘granted’ an GR account? Do we live in communist times? This ain’t Russia, China or North Korea – time for us to stop telling authors what they can and cannot do.
Well… you could also ask who the hell are authors to tell readers how to behave. I think everyone simply needs to behave with class and politeness, both authors and readers. I shared because an author wrote the article and I read some successful stories of reader/author interaction in there.
I must have missed the post where they wanted check boxes before allowing authors on GR. O.o
The person (author) who wrote the so-called rules is not exactly the person anyone should be taking advice from. Just my observation from reading her on Twitter and various places online over the last year or so.
> I must have missed the post where they wanted check boxes before allowing authors on GR. O.o
It was probably this post that Good Belle was referring to:
> message 4: by Katharine (new) Feb 13, 2013 03:19pm
>
> It would almost be good if they had to tick a box stating they’d read certain ‘do and don’t’ lists before they’re granted their author accounts. For their own benefit. But mostly our sanity.
>
> I think we have to accept that some people – who happen to be authors – just like causing drama.
All this does is confirm that places like Goodreads are (currently) useless for authors, particularly authors who aren’t already famous. The clique there (and at other places like the forums at Amazon) react with outrage if an author so much as mentions the name of his book (which is apparently considered “spamming”). Hell, some people there get seriously put out with you if you even mention that you **have** a book without saying what the title is.
I can understand that authors should avoid the “hard sell” and shouldn’t try to get the word out about their books by dumping blurbs and ad-speak onto a forum thread, but Heidi Belleau’s list of rules is offensive. She’s going to tell us that if you’re an author, you can’t talk to your fans unless they talk to you first, and that when that happens, you can talk about other people’s books but NOT your own? Give me a freaking break. Is an author a second-class citizen who needs to be reminded of her place? Is she supposed to shrug and accept lots of one-star reviews from people who haven’t read her books because somebody online with a chip on his shoulder thought she was getting uppity?
These rules are ridiculous, and they make places like Goodreads useless if not poison for writers just starting out and struggling to get fans in the first place.
That disclaimer by the person who started that thread, stating that she doesn’t know the author is a complete lie, and the author who wrote that blog post is best buds on Twitter with some of the worst bullies out there.
Did you notice any familiar names posting on that thread? It is amazing how these same people just pop up when ever there is a bit of author bashing going on!
Who made up all these new rules for authors anyway? Who says that an author can’t respond to a review on his or her own book? Any Tom, Dick or Harry can write a book review on GR and Amazon. The way some of those people go on you would swear they were professional reviewers. They are just readers, same as anyone else. So if any auld randomer is allowed to leave a review on an authors book then why the hell can’t an author respond? Especially if the reviewer hasn’t even read the book! If a reviewer doesn’t like authors responding to their reviews then they shouldn’t write a review! I know most people won’t agree with me but that is how I feel.
Growing up I was thought to respect authors, I can’t understand how anyone can claim to love reading and yet hate authors so much? Authors just can’t do anything right as far as the trolls are concerned, even when the author gives their e-books away for free they still get trolls attacking the book. Nasty trolls!
I don’t think that just anyone should be allowed to write book reviews on Amazon and such sites. Its not good for us readers because there are so many fake five star reviews written, and that is very misleading. And its not good for authors because of the troll problem. I think amazon should only let a select few trusted people review books, as in people who are TRUE book lovers! And lets face it the trolls spend so much time trolling the internet that they can’t have much time left to read any books!
Just to provide some comic relief, Dylen Durret (who writes under the name Jason Bryan) has been going at it since yesterday with some of the bullies in the Kindle Forum:
As usual we see the very same trolls in the middle of the argument!!! Once AGAIN we have:
Troll – P.B. Morin
Troll – Anna Karenina (Zahara)
Troll – Winter Mooncat
To name just a few!!!
EVERY day and EVERY night these aggressive bullies are arguing on the internet. They are so bloody self righteous! Can you just imagine getting into that many fights on the internet!!!! Surely at some stage they must take a step back, turn off their computers and think about their aggressive behavior!!!
These trolls/bullies never ever take a night off from bullying people! Any sniff of an argument and they are straight in there in the thick of it! Do they never get sick of fighting??? And then they whine and wonder why people call them bullies, Eh? Hello!!!
Have they really nothing else to do??? They are so negative. I really do pity these trolls/bullies. What a pathetic, sad existence!!!
I notice that Eve has updated her blog on Goodreads I hope they stay quiet. I’m also following on twitter and see she has tweeted that press releases have been sent out and she has a radio interview today. Lets hope that the media picks this up everywhere, the bullies so need naming and shaming
I don’t know if anyone has seen this, the latest NYT article on Goodreads:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/13/books/goodreadscom-is-growing-as-a-popular-book-site.html?src=recg&_r=0
I have wrote to the editor and highlighted what has happened to Eve, information on this site and the truth about Goodreads. I hope you will all email them, keys get this out there. We will not only be supporting Eve but also STGRB. It’s about time the truth was known and this is an excellent opportunity to really get the word out there.
