We’ve received several emails just recently asking us why Jane Litte (the founder of Dear Author) was banned from Romance Writers of America and honestly, this was news to us when we heard about it a year ago. Fortunately, a couple of our site visitors were there in the days of #RRTheater and #Romfail and remember exactly what happened. So, we want to share with you anon-a-bus’s comment answering this question:
She was banned for several reasons, one of which was something she did on Twitter a few years ago. For some reason she took a personal dislike to one new small publisher and she started a vicious twitter feed on Friday nights with a name that went something like #RRTheater. She lead a group of people/minions bashing the publisher and authors. Then she expanded and continued bashing and laughing at all erotic romance she didn’t like with another group called #Romfail. Once again, she went on Twitter with her bully minions and they ripped erotic romance books and authors to shreds in public in one of the most vicious ways most people have ever seen. You can do a search for #Romfail and there is information out there. There isn’t as much as there should be because the authors she ripped apart were very new and they didn’t know how to fight back or what to do. They were devastated by what she did, and RWA must have taken notice of it. They gave a specific reason why they were not renewing her membership, but the real reason was Romfail and the way she was creating bad feelings within the romance community.
She is truly one of the most vicious bloggers on this planet, and one of the most unprofessional. She is the bottom of publishing in this day and age. But what’s even more interesting is that she has the nerve to question an author’s identity and she’s not even using her real name as a blogger. No one’s named Jane Litte. She’s an ambulance chaser from Iowa who also has an online presence with her real name. That information is out there, too, with quick searches. I don’t think it’s considered doc-dropping when it’s mentioned in a NYT article.
Anon-a-bus is absolutely right when she says that Jane has no business accusing another person of being a “fake” when her internet persona, Jane Litte, is a fake itself. And she has no business acting as if she is some sort of authority in the publishing world (sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong) when she is considered by many to be one of the worst bottom-feeders.
So, watch out for this one, everyone! There’s a reason she’s on our Biggest Offenders list. As one of our blog readers said, she’s a nasty piece of work.
I remember hearing about this a while back. She’s a nightmare. Hypocritical with a black soul, driven by jealousy and selfishness and a need for attention.
Well said. She indeed has a black soul. It’s been shown time and again in the way she treats others on the Web. I wonder how she lives with herself. But then again, a sociopath doesn’t have a conscience.
I initially used to read her blog until I realized who and what she was–an unprofessional snake posing as a legit blogger. She has her little group of friends and supporters, but there are many, many more who don’t like her and her tactics. She has a very bad reputation. Frankly, she gives a bad name to the writing world, and her blog is a joke. Once I learned what kind of person (bully) she was, I stayed as far away from her site as possible, and I’ve warned other authors and readers to do the same. She’s bad news all the way around. Her lack of professionalism is astounding… but then, what do we expect from a two-bit troll? And that’s all she truly is: a troll with a blog. Beware.
Same here, Tinkerbell. I used to visit her site for publishing news because she posted it all in one place but now I just go straight to the sources she apes so much of her info from. Now she is copying off the free reads and ebook deal sites since she’s in your guys’s radar. I’m glad. She’s like a cockroach that has the light shown on her and went into hiding. She’s been harassing authors for far too long and it’s good to see she isn’t getting away with her bully tactics like before.
Bottom feeder is right! You know she messaged JS Cooper just to get her riled up. That’s what Jane and her lot do. They go around baiting authors into fights just to put them down. Jane is a vicious, hateful woman. I’m glad to see people are taking a stand against her.
She’s a piece of work and has been for years. The thing is, she doesn’t know any better and isn’t the brightest bulb on the tree. There are many that will not forget romfail. She can kick all the nasty Ridleys off her blog to make her look as if she has changed, but she hasn’t. She loves a witch hunt. Nasty person.
Just wondering, is Jane a practicing lawyer? When does she have time for that, and what does the law practice she works for think of her online antics? Personally, I wouldn’t want to hire a lawyer who has an online life that looks like Jane Litte’s. Never, ever. Gross.
That question was asked a while back and the consensus was that there’s no way she would have time to practice law and run her blog. Lawyers work 50-60 hours a week.
That, and spending the entire day on Twitter. What working lawyer has time for that? Her JaneL twitter account (now gone) had something like 45,000 tweets on it. I have a lawyer, andI can’t imagine her having the time for all that bullshit. Jane is a big fake.
Oh, there’s a story there. I don’t know what it is, but I would love to know. I’ve heard, but don’t know for certain, she does some kind of Workman’s Compensation work for the state. So she’s not exactly a star in the legal field if that is the case. But there is a story there, and someone’s hiding something.
Her latest post about comment policy is entertaining. She’s on that I love little kittens kick right now to garner support from readers who don’t know the full extent of what she’s done and is capable of doing. She talks about civil comments as if she invented them, but never goes back to show any of the vicious comment threads she herself has perpetuated over the years.
The other interesting thing about the J. S. Cooper thing is that Jane actually backed off this time. When J. S. Cooper went on the offense with Jane, Jane surrendered because she realized that Cooper was not hiding anything. That’s where Jane works best. She goes for the weakest link and zooms in on people who are vulnerable. But when she sees that someone isn’t hiding anything, she retreats because she knows she’s can’t win.
THE classic bully.
I didn’t notice this one. That puts the whole lawsuit into context.
