Just wanted to share the article GoodEReader.com did today on Goodreads bullying:

Thank you, GoodEReader!

For anyone who thought that the whole blow up the other day was a publicity stunt, think again.  Lauren Howard is still not going to publish her book.  Right now she is doing what she should be doing and backing away from the whole thing, ignoring her attackers, and blocking anyone who harasses her.  She wants to move on with her life.  We don’t blame her.  No one should ever be treated the way she was.

Yesterday, a large number of GR accounts got deleted and not by GR.  People willingly left.  As to the exact number of accounts, that, we don’t know.  We weren’t counting, but we do know that GR lost a sizable chunk of its active users

Right now, because of the backlash that happened in the media, the bullies are trying to turn everything around and doing to Lauren what they did to us last year when we began digging up their dirty laundry and showing it to the public.  They tried to spread rumors and discredit our site with false claims.  They are doing this to Lauren as well.  So, don’t believe the rumors being spread around.  They are false.

What is incredible is that the bullies are even calling into question Anne R. Allen’s testimony.  Anne is not a liar.  She is a good lady and a talented author who is well-respected within the book community.  Anne is telling the truth when she said she saw threats directed at Lauren.  And if you put together some of the deleted shelves (author-should-be-raped-in-prison, author-should-be-sodomized) with TinaNicole’s (aggressive-male-affection-in-prison, sodomy-by-lawn-sculpture), it’s obvious they were trying to intimidate and bully her into silence.

Whenever you see criminal behavior like this from the bullies, screengrab it immediately!  Because once caught, the bullies will do what they do best.  They will cover their tracks by removing what they did and then they will deny, deny, deny.  Not only that, they will do their best to discredit and blame the victim.  It’s disgraceful, despicable behavior!

To end this post, we want to pose a few questions to Otis and Patrick:

How long is this going to continue?  How long are you going to let these people terrorize others on your site?  What’s it going to take until you do something about it?  What?  Are you going to wait until someone actually gets raped or killed?  Because you know what?  If that happens, you won’t be able to do anything about it at that point.  Your site will get SHUT DOWN.  Get it together, guys! After all, you are in the “business of helping authors and publishers market their books to readers”. That’s how you make your money.  Remember?

“We’re in the media business today.  We’re in the business of helping authors and publishers market their books to readers.  And that’s where we make our money.  We sell book launch packages to authors and publishers and really help accelerate, build that early buzz that a book needs to succeed when it launches and accelerate that growth through ads on the site.”

- Otis Chandler, founder of Goodreads

Interesting, isn’t it?  As for our recommendation to authors and publishers regarding Goodreads, we say that until Otis and Patrick clean house, STAY FAR AWAY from GR.

Update 8/24/2013

Due to all the negative attention, Lauren has decided to publish under a pseudonym and change the name and title of her first book.  This still proves that the whole affair wasn’t a publicity stunt as no one will know that it is the same book once it is published.
