The Great Purging of the Goodreads Trolls has begun. So far, if you check out our Badly Behaving Goodreaders page, you will find the following bullies are currently GONE from GR:
Adam Archer Pring (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Autumn Rosen (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Barbara (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Freebird (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Jacklyn (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Jane Litte (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Jennifer (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Kara Malinczak (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Lyn the Heartless (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Serena (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Shiloh Walker (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Tatum (no longer on GR, account deleted)
Thor (no longer on GR, account deleted)
They’ve all jumped ship and headed for Booklikes and LibraryThing. Edit: We received word that many of the bullies are being kicked off Goodreads for their behavior:
GR also just kicked “Barbara Lindt Ninja” off after multiple complaints were lodged. Her ratings and bookshelves likewise were deleted. GR is indeed cleaning house.
I encourage all Goodreads members to lodge a formal complaint against Miranda Koryluk for malicious behavior. You can do this via the “Contact” icon at the bottom of the GR page. GR is now taking action against these trolls by kicking them off the site and vacating their ratings and bookshelves.
Which means you can also report her and TinaNicole and Tracy for grouping up to create another .
We invite our readers to report this to GR management.
One of our blog readers asked us what Booklikes thinks of the trolls’ behavior and we couldn’t answer because we’ve been too busy with a new project to find out. Well, one of our helpers/blog readers asked BL that question and this is what he found out:
*********************************************************************************************
Update: 9/27/2013
Amazon owns 40% of LibraryThing, so that more than likely means it has the same rights as GR to use Amazon authors’ copyrighted material. Since Booklikes is independently owned, if they do not have an author’s permission to use copyrighted material owned by the author, the author has a right to ask them to remove it. See our post, GR & Copyright, for more information on that.

Well, if they all go do Booklikes, a new service just starting up, it might be easier to ignore it. Heck, they’ll chase off a lot of possible new users with there spewed venom and negativity, so it won’t get that big.
As for the rest of us? We know where not to go, and it’s not the biggest book review site out there that we have to steer clear of. A repeat of, “This place won’t get big with the trolls there” needs to be repeated at this point. Most people don’t like being around trolls.
At least until Booklikes figures out it’s just not worth it to have them there, of course. 😛
It *IS* getting annoying that Amazon has their fingers in so many of these sites so that we are limited in the use of DMCA takedowns. I’m not sure complaining to Amazon like we can with Goodreads now would do any good, considering it’s a financial interest only at this point.
You’re right on both counts. This purging, though, we never thought we’d see it happen. I can’t even begin to tell you how much we LOVE watching this whole thing play out. 😀
Yes, we are loving this. We are absolutely loving this!
Right. That’s it. Deleting my account with Booklikes. I’ll stick with GR now that they’ve started the big purging. Seems like GR is heading back to the way it was before the trolls took over. And of course Amazon has staked a claim in BL…
If Booklikes has half a brain they’ll ban them asap giving them no place to spread their vile vomit and forcing them into the dark corners of the internet to scream from their desperate blogs.
Not sure what to make of this one…
Someone grab a screen dump of this?
I love how somebody left a GIF on that thread saying “Don’t let the haters stop you from doing your thang.” Because it’s the “badly behaving authors” and their minions at Goodreads who are the real haters here, of course.
But of course they are in the right and the rest of the darned world is in the wrong! Duh!
didn’t translate, that was meant as sarcasm… 😀
Oh, don’t worry, your sarcasm came through loud and clear!
I’m ashamed to admit that owl totally made me laugh. I’ve stolen it for my personal use. The rest of it, however…
To quote the “lovely” JennyJen – HELL to the no!
They need to take down this profile. Two of my books got hit by her yesterday. “Censorship” She has rated over 500 books with one-star. Her shelf isn’t horrible (get at library), but the action is obvious. She has absolutely no written reviews or no books rated above one star. What good does that do except pull 500 books down in their ratings? Oh, and she’s friends with Ridley. How can we report this one?
Now some of her friends are one-starring my books as well. Sigh.
I’ve already reported her and her friends multiple times – they already hit all seven of my books, including the ones that haven’t been written yet. Use the “flag” button beside the review. I also recommend emailing both Goodreads, and Amazon. I have.
Look at all the trolls evacuate their cave ever since Goodreads smoked them out. What a shock this must be to them. One day they are sitting on top of the world, the next day Goodreads kicks their chair right out from under them. Talk about a mean dish of humiliation, served cold nonetheless lol. They can go pout on their blogs where nobody cares because I surely won’t be reading them, nor anyone else for that matter.
Mark another one for STGRB. Great job organizing and working with GR to get this disaster cleaned up to better serve the community for everyone. Millions of readers and authors are grateful for these changes despite what the .0001% screaming foul play say.
Ding dong, the witch is dead! Or should I say witches? Ha, ha! Clicking my heels together in joy!
Troll Miranda Koryluk is behind the following malicious bookshelves. Please “flag” these as malicious at the bottom of their GR pages:
Books That Made You Cry… Because They Were So Bad!
Offensive Authors
Already have, and emailed both GR and Amazon about it.
She’s also using this shelf, which isn’t even hers:
I might be missing something here, but surely ‘books that made you cry because they were so bad’ isn’t attacking an author? It may not be the nicest thing to shelve a book under, but I have to admit I myself have a shelf or two along those lines.
To be honest, I’m beginning to wonder if this shelf-deleting development is really all that great. I find most of these bullies to be repulsive people, and they are leaving Goodreads because of this, but I feel like the real problem is the rating, reviewing, and shelving that occurs without having read the book just because you have a personal problem with the author, and the rounding up of the mob to follow suit; and deleting shelves isn’t addressing the issue. Some of these shelves are vulgar and unnecessary, but is labelling something ‘offensive author’ really that bad if you have read the book and really do think the author is offensive? For some people the character of an author is an important factor when they are making a purchase, and I think they should be allowed to choose according to that criteria if they want.
I’m not saying that’s necessarily the case with this particular reviewer, for all I know these are shelves they use entirely out of spite for books they haven’t read, and I never make reference to the author in my own reviews, but the policy in general would make me very uncomfortable if I was no longer allowed to call a bad book… well, bad.
“is labelling something ‘offensive author’ really that bad if you have read the book and really do think the author is offensive?”
The problem with letting people involve the author in a book review is a slippery slope. I understand why Goodreads is doing this. When you allow people to bash authors, it opens the door to abuse and the kind of attack that we’ve been documenting on our blog for the past year. By not allowing authors to be part of the shelving and reviews, this essentially puts an end to the abuse.
But I agree with you that ‘books that made you cry because they were so bad’ isn’t an attack on the author.
It wouldn’t be, except for one simple fact: That person (Miranda) has made it clear that she hasn’t read a single one of the books that she’s added to that shelf. She’s doing it to hurt people. How do I know this? She added all of my 7 books and 1 short story to that shelf. Five of them aren’t available to the public yet. Two of them haven’t even been WRITTEN yet. It’s part of her attack strategy to hurt people using other people’s innocent lists.
Frankly, that pisses me off like you wouldn’t believe. The “Books that made you cry… because they were so bad!” list appears to be completely innocent, as is the “Worst Books Of All Time” list. However, they’re being used as weapons against us.
I wonder if Goodreads couldn’t have found a way to make the shelves private. That way, people would have been perfectly free to shelve books anyway they wanted, but it wouldn’t have shown on the book page. The intent of all these negative shelvings was to have all these insults and profanities appear when people went to look at a book, so that it would put them off reading it. Just as the intent of all these one stars is to drive down ratings.
It really is great to see the back of all those nasty bullies. I was beginning to think it would never happen. The bullies had toned things down quite a bit in the last year since STGRB started up. This time last year there was a least two authors viciously attacked on Goodreads each week, some weeks there were attacks daily. Thankfully the bullies quietened down a bit once STGRB started documenting the attacks. I was always amazed that Goodreads did nothing to stop them.
Recently I had noticed the bully attacks were starting to happen more regularly again. I was delighted to see that at last more people were blogging about the Goodread bullies, it was great to see so many people supporting STGRB. But now seeing bully accounts being deleted is like a dream come true. Maybe, just maybe GR will become a nice place to go to chat about books.
I truly feel sorry for Booklikes, the bullies plan to take over that site. Good riddance to them, lets hope they stay there. I had a Booklikes account, but I deleted it when the bullies went there. I’m sure the bullies will drive many people from that site. If GR cleans their site up then I might rejoin, I’ll wait and see how things go first.
Well done STGRB for documenting the bully attacks so well. If this blog hadn’t started up then god only knows what would have been happening on GR. The bullies would still be running riot. I will never understand why Goodreads didn’t step in sooner, better late than never though!
Yes, everyone please hit that bbbbbb–lovely lady, Miranda, with all you’ve got! She’s targeted me, which has resulted in a massive drop in the rating of all of my books. She started it, and she’s organising it.
Actually, that came off as slightly more selfish than I intended, with my restrospect-and-had-a-nice-nap glasses on. I should say, she has targeted me and at least 140 other books, and those are just the ones we know about.
