Just when we thought Jenny had turned over a new leaf. Sigh. Alas, she has not. She’s on another rampage. We feel as though we really don’t have to sum up what Jenny’s done this time. The title of our post says it all.
We found out about this from a link to an FB article sent to us from a blog reader:
Stunned, we went to Jenny’s blog to find out for ourselves. We won’t link to it here, but we will show you the shots we took.
It starts with:
And ends with:
We would say we’re shocked, but everything coming from the bullies these days seems to get worse and worse. When the author on FB brought it to people’s attention, do you think Jenny was ashamed of her behavior and apologized for it?
Uh… no.
She sent this to the FB author:
Way to go, Jenny! You’ve shown your true colors once again!
***************************************************************************
An Addendum
The author (who we know is definitely NOT racist or a rapist) who originally called Jenny out for her bullying was recently attacked on Twitter by her and her fans/friends. We wanted to show you what these bullies do when you stand up against them (we’ve whited out the author’s identifying information to protect him):
« A Letter from Anne Rice to STGRB Mahala Gets Kicked from Goodreads »
The book is bad. I won’t return it (just to spite Jenny) but I won’t buy from the author in the future.
AM I going to punish the author?
Organize a raid to have it taken down?
Tell people to pirate it?
Demean her as a human being?
No to all of these things, because I’m not a bully.
Also, keep in mind, that while you feel this book is bad, another person may not. Writing is art. In Jenny’s case, just looking at her white trash photo with gangster tats on her white trash hands shows me her opinion is…
…what did she say? Ah, yes. A steaming pile of shit.
I don’t think you should lump the tattoos in there. I have tattoos on my hands and other various parts of my body. It’s not fair to generalize about people with tats.
Can we leave the tattoos out of this? Just like the books being art ,so are tattoos and I would prefer to not be lumped together with this loser just because we both have hand tattoos. Thanks
I wonder if Jenny’s heard of ‘Abraham Lincoln, Presidential Fuck Machine’? Seriously though, I think this one’s gone round the bend. She had one book on the NYT bestseller list for about five minutes and has never repeated the feat since. This has made her lose her mind.
Jeff, your comment made me laugh!
I’ve never even heard of this twit.
This is such bullshit for Jenny Trout to pull. I found 50 Shades of Grey offensive but I didn’t attempt to sabotage E.L. James’ career. So if the author in question wrote a historical BDSM tale and no one buys it…well then that writer will have her answer whether her book was good enough or not. But to go on and use one’s fame or maybe it’s infamy to ask their readers to pirate someone’s work instead of purchasing it (thus supporting the artist in question) because she personally finds the material offensive (without even having read the book) is just childish and ignorant. Fuck you Jenny Trout, you’re what’s wrong with our industry.
I’m with you there, Anon
I didn’t like 50 shades. Not one bit.
But I’m not trying to destroy her, either. Because she has a RIGHT to free speech. And a RIGHT not to be bullied for her imagination.
I’m with you about 50 Shades. I think it’s so bad in so many ways… I’d criticized it a lot of time with a lot of people. BUT that doesn’t mean I want it ban from shelves and EL James condemned not to write anything else in the future.
Did this Jenny Trout person know about Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter? Would she try to ban it too for its lack of historycal accurancy?
If a book is bad, it’s going to be unnoticed eventualy, without any help.
Part of me almost suspects it’s not the historical accuracy at all. I don’t know this, I just have this inkling she has some other … ulterior motive.
This crazy woman makes me want to buy the book just because she is being so horrible to the other writer. She apparently has mental problems and feels that her opinion is the ONLY opinion. What horrible behavior.
I take it you guys saw that Mahala got booted from Goodreads?
Yep!
https://stopthegrbullies.com/2015/03/12/mahala-gets-kicked-from-goodreads/
Wow! Just wow! It never ceases to amaze me how far some people will go! Having an opinion is one thing, forcing it down other people’s throats and using your power to generate a witch hunt is horrible! God forbid she ever read one of my books and finds out what I have the Queen of England doing. lol. Its fiction people!!! The author in question wrote a work of fiction based off historical facts and musing’s. They did not list this book at a factual biography of Jefferson’s life! *shakes head and steps off podium*
On an aside, I just got through reading this morning that the whole Jefferson/Hemmings thing is much more speculative than I had thought. DNA tests show a link to the Jefferson line, but none to the man himself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson%E2%80%93Hemings_controversy
That aside, why would one author seek to torpedo the work of another author? Afraid of losing sales? Fan base? I don’t get it. It invariably paints the accuser in a harsher light than the one being accused.
To all commenters, if you see your comment but your name has been changed to Anon, we do that on purpose to protect you from the bullies as they frequently stalk our site looking for new victims who post comments here.
I wonder if the author that is suggesting her readers “pirate” another author’s work can be prosecuted? Please don’t change my name to Anon, I am totally ok with crazy rabid fans of Jenny Trout messaging me. I completely support the other author and will be purchasing her book even though I don’t usually read that genre. Stand up and Speak out!! Let’s show J.T that nobody likes a bully!
I don’t like erotica but I do read unknown authors but all this author is a troller using her power of a author to bully…worthless….I’ll never buy her books
This woman is a psycho. It’s going to be absolutely hilarious when she tries to go at someone and they tear her down piece by piece. She’s going to meet someone and they are going to make her feel so very small and unimportant. It’s going to be great. Everyone should not buy her books anymore since she is such a horrible person, she doesn’t deserve our money.
I’m a step ahead. I’ve never bought her books. I don’t even know who the hell she is.
I do, however, have three words for her asan indie writer myself:
Bring it, b****.
Who is Jenny Trout? I read prolifically but have never heard of her
I was just wondering who she was myself. I too am a prolific reader, across many genres, but I’ve never heard of her! I have to say though, I hate being told what to do so her comments are more likely to make me buy the other book than stop me!
She used to write as Jennifer Armintrout (not to be confused with Jennifer Armentrout/J. Lynn who is a lovely person). She also writes as Abigail Barnette.
Please don’t confuse the two, Jennifer Armentrout is a well respected author.
Absolutely! The other JA is awesome. Definitely not to be confused!
Crude and vulgar, but I’m sure Jenny appeals to a certain demographic out there.
Bullies are nothing more than very sad people with very sad lives, and have nothing better to do, but try and ruin someone else. In the long run, all they do is make their self more misirible. It is a sad vicious cycle. She just discredits herself….sadness.
So glad I have never bought or read anything from that woman. I read a lot of unknown authors and will continue to do so, but people like her make me sick. What the hell? I mean, seriously, she’s a blight to this world. Pathetic and ridiculous. That’s all there is to it. I will never buy anything of hers.
Gotta luv Anne for sharing this!
She’s great, isn’t she? Thanks to her, this article has gotten over 10,000 views so far.
The online bullies claim that Anne Rice is losing readers because she supports you people. Haha…really, that’s a stretch. That little group is pretty small in the grand scheme. I find it amusing that they think they are so important outside their gangs, especially with an author like Rice.
I doubt Ann will lose any fans that are worth it. Most are lovely people. It was her link that brought me here.
I’ve received no credible feedback that I’ve lost readers because I stand up for authors against the Amazon and Goodreads bullies and support STGRB. On the contrary, while I was on tour last year, meeting thousands of readers, readers volunteered their gratitude that I stuck up for authors. I receive emails thanking me as well. I’m grateful for this. Always grateful. I love my readers and always have. I’ve always loved meeting them at signings, and I had an open phone line years ago, before I ever went online and welcomed calls from them and frequently talked to them directly. My FB page now, I’m grateful to say, has over a million, one hundred fifty thousands people and I love the direct feedback and communication. I’m one of those authors who has always been close to her audience, always valued them, treasured them and welcomed their feedback. —- The claim that I’ve lost readers seems to come from those who’ve never read my work. —— It’s important to remember just how small the bully problem is in the book world. But we must remember too that to the people hurt by bullies, it’s a big problem and always will be. I’ll always stand up for young authors, and indie authors, and beginning authors, and I’ll stand up for the reviewers bullied by bullies as well. A lot of reviewers have been bullied for favorably reviewing authors who had been targeted by bullies. Thanks again, and always, to STGRB for being such a priceless resource for those suffering from bully attacks.
This is how I found out about it.
Nothing makes me more furious than authors who bully other authors. They’re a nasty wart on our whole industry. The only reason she’s doing it is for attention. She has a pattern of this kind of behavior. If you want to protest, don’t pirate her books, but nothing wrong with boycotting them.
I’d like to know when Trout has time to write her own books, because there are only so many hours in a day, and much of her time seems to be spent being a bully troll online. What a disgusting person.
I didn’t buy the book. I sure as hell won’t steal a book that I’m not willing to buy. I can’t speak about that which I don’t know. I totally get that Jenny Trout didn’t like the book. It’s absolutely her right to feel exactly as she does about the book and the author.
Organizing boycotts or soliciting booksellers to take it down is akin to book burning, though. Everything written, no matter how ugly or contentious that we may find it, has a place in literature. Suggesting that people STEAL the book is irresponsible and shitty. This attitude alone only solidifies one thing for me. No matter how much I might want to (and I don’t really) I’ll never buy a Jenny Trout book.
Although, I am a bit intrigued by Abraham Lincoln: Presidential Fuck Machine. I may have to go look it up.
Jenny Trout has narcissistic personality disorder! It’s true! Because I said it! And apparently that’s all there is to the truth – some stupid b**** having an opinion. I would not even pick up a Jenny Trout in a charity shop (which I’m sure is where she’s destined) after reading this.
I never would even before this. How good can her books be when she spends all day online complaining and making fun of people. Who needs that, besides her friends and family?
I’m fairly sure even her friends (or lack of) and family aren’t up for this circus either.
I’m going to stay tuned in to your blog here. I want to know what we can do about Ms Jenny. What she has done here is undeniably censorship brought on by a personal opinion. Just her statement “I don’t want anyone to read it” is insane, as though she were personally in charge of the reading habits of the public. I don’t know who she really thinks she is, but she’s not ever going to control my reading of anything I want to read!
Keep up the good work!
I did some investigating, and even the bullies she works so hard to suck up to don’t give her good reviews. Khanh (destroyer of dreams) never gives her more than three stars. Kat Kennedy never gives her more than two stars. Oh, and at least one person accuses her of borderline plagiarism
So why does she keep sucking up to them? She must be a masochist.
This isn’t the right author. Similar names but one is Jennifer L. Armentrout and the other is Jennifer Armintrout aka Jenny Trout
Sorry, my mistake. But in that case I need to alert everyone to the fact that if you search the bookshelves of individual GR members using the term ‘trout’, you get Jennifer ArmEntrout (the wrong one) and no sign of ArmIntrout. Though ‘Jenny Trout’ does show up. Does Jennifer ArmEntrout know she’s currently being mistaken for Jenny Trout thanks to a bug in the GR system? It doesn’t seem fair to her.
Based on taking a look on her facebook feed, it doesn’t seem to be effecting her. I actually thought they were the same person when I saw Trout’s books at the used book story, I had to look them up to realize oh, that’s an ‘i’ lol
I generally don’t wish harm to other people. Generally….. But in this case, I really wish some of those fuck-waffles get the public, rage-induced strokes they richly deserve. That way they can garner some the attention they so desperately crave.
Just did a little bit of research, this author has the pseudonym of Abigail Barnette. I wasn’t familar with Jenny Trout, but a minute of google showed me it was the same person who I have unfortunately purchased books from in the past. I’m a little disappointed that people in the same industry can be this cruel to each other. If someone’s work sucks … Well, they aren’t going to succeed very long. Let them fizzle out on their own. And yes, there is a huge difference between a negative criticism and just being mean.
Found the information on her webpage here: http://jennytrout.com/?page_id=7030
So is that what the whole Jefferson context was about?
The book may not be up my alley, but I just can’t … rationalize her behavior of author slamming. It makes my head hurt thinking about it.
I’d be shocked, if it weren’t so cynical.
There is no need to pirate the book. B&N does still have the book, but it is up for NOOK for free at time of comment. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/thomas-jeffersons-mistress-fionna-free-man-sex-therapist-md/1121385330?ean=9782765907619
who is jenny trout?..no offense but i have never heard of her and i read loads of books i guess she just isnt up to the awesome standards of the authors i read
Which kind of tells me there is more to this than just some lady writing a Jefferson story. If she’s not famous, maybe she’s angry about it?
General aside: Just to be clear, most trans women don’t act like this. I sure don’t. She’s the odd one out here. I muted her on Wattpad.
Most reasonable human beings don’t act like this, trans, gay, straight or otherwise. It’s appalling.
I’m going to buy this book just to spite Jenny :). Sometimes cheesy and ridiculous books are still very entertaining to me. I may enjoy it very much and now I’ll have the opportunity because Jenny brought it some attention.
Good lord. Just heard about all this hubbub today. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of this Trout.
If Ms. Trout is causing actual, provable reputation/financial damages to this (these?) author(s), then they should sue.
I have no idea how legit the accusations are on either side. Obviously, negative, mean-spirited reviews are perfectly fine and acceptable Price of doing business, as it were.
Actively campaigning to have a book taken down from sale and encouraging piracy seems to take it to a different level, though. Maybe ask a lawyer.
*shrug*
Who does this woman think she is and why does she even have minions to do as she says. She seems incredibly vile.
Oh honestly, don’t these bullies realize that all they’re doing is driving readers like me, who have never heard of the author in question, to BUY THE BOOK BEING RIDICULED??????
There are thousands of us out there, readers who only picked up our first Harry Potter novel because some church was burning it. I had never known the pleasure of a Jodi Picoult novel until some school made the news for throwing a hissy over it.
Mock on, mock on, bullies. Drive those sales onward and upward.
I wonder if my emails to and from her publisher had anything to do with it? I have emails from them stating that they were going to read this, that they read Anne Rice’s address to this, and that they subsequently contacted Jenny Trouts agent about it. I don’t know what was said, but I do know that because of this post, she had to have a conversation with her publicist. I assume it was regarding the promotion of pirating another authors works, as I’m sure a publicist would fume over.
Until I emailed them, they had no idea this was going on, or so they stated. I informed them that it was making its way to Facebook, where it might become an even larger publicity issue… Jenny Trout is a disgrace to the writing profession, and I will never buy her work. I’d like to think my email planted the seed to this change, but we’ll never know. It comes down to the original post, and AR’s post, so GRATS on that! Good job stopping a bully!!!
Better to have written a shitty book than to be an outright shitty person. After all, you can always write a better book. I’ll be happy to reward Jenny Trout for her shameful behavior by never allowing her novel, good or bad, to grace a shelf in my personal library. Now, with no intent of ever reading her book, she has successfully managed to use the little fame she’s acquired to show the world that she’s NOT a great writer–just a vile asshole who’s rotten personality is more powerful than her ability to control it.
This Trout person needs to be put in the psyche ward in a straight jacket. She is totally insane! Just look at her, she’s sick in the head.
Jenny here reminds Me of an angeljenny55 & esp violetkitty411
Both petty compulsive & fierce attack-artists
Kitty is of the pampered/princess cult variety
Whereas Jenny55 is more like the rogue Carmel1119 variety
w/ the
Looks & tats to match Trout
Holy crap. I step away from the site for a few days, and look what I missed.
So, Jenny Trout, not only do you boast about not reading the book you’re panning, you are actually calling for a boycott of the book based purely on the book’s concept (“IT IS BAD ENOUGH WITHOUT KNOWING THE CONTENT. ITS EXISTENCE IS BAD”). You said this:
and then provided the phone numbers for Amazon, B&N, and Kobo so like-minded SJWs like yourself could try to hound those retailers into stopping sales of the book you didn’t even bother to read.
Then when the author called you on it on Facebook, you posted a message saying
just to prove to people that there isn’t a damn thing anybody can do to make you grow up and join the civilized world of adults.
But guess what, Jenny Trout, Little Miss “Badly Behaving Author” Extraordinaire? Readers can do what they want, too. And my guess is that readers in general don’t like authors who try to organize a virtual book-burning against another author.
Enjoy the rest of your career.
We should probably clear something up. The author who called Jenny out on her behavior wasn’t the author who wrote the book. It was another author who happened to come across Jenny’s post and was offended by it.
Jenny is generating sooo much attention for themselves
It would def. make violetkitty411 types jealous (no doubt)
What really outrages me is that for years they have been banging on and on and on and ON about freedom of speech! How STGRB is violating their freedom of speech! That they, the bullies, are standing up for freedom of speech! They’ll have you know that there is something called the First Amendment and they plan to enforce it, and bla bla bla.
AND HERE THEY ARE, DEFENDING/PERPETRATING A GOOD, OLD FASHIONED BOOK BANNING.
That level of hypocrisy is truly rage inducing.
But it’s always on their terms. They make up their own set of rules as to what is what and if anyone dares to disagree with them they attack. I have been in their cross hairs and it’s pretty disgusting the lengths they will go to. So, bravo for Anne Rice for the support on this one.
Honestly, I’ve never heard of this petty little person until today, when I saw this link being passed around on facebook. I guess the only good thing I can say about her is that I found this site!
Also, since she’s calling out her so-called troops, publicly, I wonder if there can be any legal recourse at all for her actions? She IS messing with someone’s income, and I think that can be a no-no. A huge dang-er-rang of a no-no.
I never understood writers who are so vicious as to attack other writers like this. I’ve seen nasty ones like this in writers’ groups. They will bully and slam everyone and tell them they suck, but offer no constructive feedback. I’ve seen otherwise great writing groups implode and people leave because of nasty people like her.
If you don’t like an author, just don’t read them. Don’t go trying to destroy their career because you are so unhappy with your own life and so dishonest and cutthroat that you feel the need to bully others.
I preemptively blocked her on all media for myself so I don’t ever get the brunt of her cruelty and have informed my other art/lit friends of her.
I’ve been lurking and very busy. But I discovered this “Trout” woman through a blog post she wrote regarding the Jane Litte trial of the century…sarcasm intended. All it took was one or two lines of that post, and I knew that Trout lady was a bully, unstable emotionally, and most likely looking for trouble wherever she can find it. The problem is always the same. The Trout woman goes for someone she knows she can eat up alive. What would be really entertaining would be to see good old Troutsy go for someone who can not only take her on, but demolish her once and for all. I’m almost tempted sometimes. But the other problem is it’s most likely not worth wasting the time on her or her emotional instability.
I think it is funny that your post starts at the top with a Facebook post from a known bully that you yourselves have posted on here about being a bully. LOL
Crystal, we usually don’t allow bully comments through. On our side bar, under STGRB Policy, it says:
Although they consistently read our site, the GR bullies and the Amazon fora trolls are not allowed here. They are not allowed to comment, participate in discussions, or harass our visitors in any way. This site is not for them. This site is for others. It was made to warn and educate them about the GR bullies and their behavior.
But your comment we decided to allow so that we can set your narrow little mind straight about something, as well as all the tiny, petty little minds of the rest of the bullies. You see, you guys are easy for us to spot. If we don’t recognize you by your IP, we can always tell a bully by their words because they are inherently ignorant about certain things. One of those things is this. It is possible for a person to turn over a new leaf and change their ways. The person you are referring to was once a bully, but he saw the error of his ways and apologized to everyone he hurt, something the majority of you are incapable of doing. Athena accepted his apology, as well as everyone else he hurt, and now he is friends with the people he once bullied. We understand that this will be very hard for you and the rest of the bullies to understand since you have such a narrow view of the world, but it does happen.
Don’t you understand, Johnny? Poor Jenny is the victim here, standing up for civil rights since she knows a lot more about racism than the black woman who wrote this book. She’s such a soft-spoken, generous, kind author who goes out of her way to support other authors. How dare you make her out to be a bully? She didn’t mean anything bad by all that good-natured profanity and telling people to pirate a book, then getting it removed from stores. She has that right, doesn’t she? Someone died here while back and made her the Dictator of Authorkind. Did you not get that memo?
Don’t you also love how the bullies use it as a misdirection tactic as well? Like let’s say I ask, “Why are you being so snarky on Twitter?” Instead they try to change the subject to something like, “You must be complaining about women, that makes you sexist.”
They try to change it to a topic they know they can win, so they won’t have to address the real issue is why they are snarking authors online.
Even I experience that, and I generally am averse to political topics.
Hey, Trout, if you’re listening in, take that BIRDY finger and stick it up your nose! Remember that’s just your IQ!
LOLOLOLOLOL
