Well, this is definitely a big win for STGRB and everyone who supports our blog! This was published last week, and it looks as though Amazon is going after sites that sell phony Amazon reviews:
Bravo, Amazon! You are finally doing the right thing.
Not only that, you all remember that bully review TheBunny posted saying an author should be shot? Ya know, just after she said that STGRB was about “stopping bad reviews?”
*snort*
Well, that review was reported to Amazon and Amazon promptly removed it. If you , it is no longer there, and we received this screenshot verifying that :
Isn’t it interesting how she shows no remorse for saying that someone should be killed? That’s very telling.
Anyhow, kudos to Amazon for doing the right thing. We sincerely hope this trend continues.
« New Amazon Bully, TheBunny, Claims Author Should Be Shot Books Online: A Book Pirating Website »
WONDERFUL! I LOVE IT
It’s about time. I wonder if they’ll take action against fake one-star reviews. Not the actual evaluating crit, but ones that are basically another author promoting their book by one-starring another book.
I don’t envy whoever is in charge of tracking these down and removing them. It’s a never-ending battle and often very difficult to tell who’s legit and who’s not. Real abuse, as in the example of The Bunny saying an author should be shot, is easier to weed out. If they’d also take this effort into the forums, more customers and authors might feel safer about posting there.
The bad news is she posted another review and has the gall to give her review the title of “No Headline, As Apparently Free Speech and One Star Reviews Don’t Co-Exist”. When is bullying considered free speech.
Exactly. Making a threat or saying someone should be shot is bullying, not free speech.
Well what burns me up, is they wouldn’t call it free speech if the author they were doing it threatened them. And yet somehow, in their mind, they can rationalize it as free speech when they do it.
The timing is weird. Was it somehow a reaction to Amazon taking action to take down fake reviews on their mother web site? Like it honestly seems like some of them are reactionary. Like there is always a pattern of reacting to something.
This is very interesting because if Amazon really wanted to crack down on this it’s not hard to find the companies that are taking big money from people who are too willing to pay for reviews. There is one on Twitter who tweets to authors and businesspeople all day long, every ten minutes or so, promoting this “service” that gives reviews that will help sell the “product” or book. And this particular company/guy goes into great detail about how they have worked out a system with Amazon that will promise more sales through having more reviews. So I just can’t believe that Amazon is taking all this very seriously yet. If they were all they would have to do is block these companies from posting the mass reviews that people pay for. It’s actually amazing to see the tweets about how detailed they will go with respect to gaming the system on Amazon.
I get a lot of those spammers too these days. I need to find a way to block some of those businesses.
Keep up the good work Amazon. A safer place for authors.
The spammers send private messages on Goodreads. I’ve reported every one I’ve gotten.
