We just received this screenshot from a blog reader. It’s a Goodreads review of an author Ginmar has been tormenting recently. This is the kind of review that is absolutely unacceptable and should be flagged and reported to Goodreads management.
Ginmar is a notorious bully who frequents Goodreads, Amazon, and many other cyber hangouts. She has been trolling and tormenting others on the internet for over 12 years. Should any of our readers have any cause to bring legal action against her for her abuse, please contact us via our email or Contact Us page. We can help you identify and locate her for purposes of serving papers.

Here is a screenshot of the people who liked Ginmar’s review, many of whom we recognize. You may want to keep a sharp eye out for these GR members, too.
« Another Bullied Teen Commits Suicide New Amazon Bully, TheBunny, Claims Author Should Be Shot »
Hi there. I am actually looking into this woman as it stands for a case that has popped up involving defamation.
If possible, please shoot me an email at
Thank you.
What is disgusting, is that the author being attacked is a YA author, so this Ginmar, person is leaving vulgar language where, and attacking fans and readers who may very well be teenage children.
There is no excuse for that.
When I tried to go to goodreads itself to block these bullies, I even got a virus warning from the website. Really? That’s how far Goodreads has fallen?
Update: Cut that, it turns out I typed in goodreads instead of going through a website link. But ordinarily typing in the address works fine.
OK it seems to work normally now. Not sure what was going on.
That is going too damned far. This ginmar creep is way out of line. That is nasty profanity and it only shows what her/his mind is made of…garbage. If Goodreads doesn’t ban that then they should be sued along with the ginmar idiot.
Abuse, pure and simple.
This woman is doing a great job at trying to make a fool of herself all over the internet. She tries to hide behind some phony screen name and pretend to be someone or something she isn’t, pretending she’ so tough. LOL. If she’s so tough what is she doing spending all her days and nights on the internet trolling around to stalk and harass people who couldn’t give a rat’s fat ### about her? She wants people to believe that she’s this tough persona but I’d be willing to bet she can’t even afford toilet paper wipe her own @@@.
What I don’t get is, like how can they argue this is even for the readers benefit. I mean what exactly are they telling me about the book? Like if they could point to a concrete thing about the novel and cut the author bashing padding.
And couldn’t the school shooter bit count as libel? What substance and value does that add to a review of a book?
I went to goodreads and read some posts and ginmar is using HORRIBLY disgusting profanity on there in the comments on that book referenced above. People are defending the author and she is using her same old tactic calling the men sexist and so forth. She’s throwing F bombs at the people who are calling her down on her actions and she’s also writing a lot of dirty, sexist stuff herself, all against men. Her comments are getting flagged like crazy for the profanity so they’ll probably be gone soon. I cannot understand why goodreads has not already banned ginmar from their site. Awful person. Needs to be in a straight jacket in a padded cell somewhere she can’t be in contact with the rest of the human race. I flagged some of her foul f bombs and other assorted nasty language and sent goodreads a little note telling them how much I resent that they allow this kind of trash to litter their site and they will lose decent members over ginmar. Hope they listen. Can’t understand people getting so militant and evil over books. Weird.
Apparently the non-review was too much for Goodreads ludicrous Review Guidelines. It’s been removed.
I would have never expected that out of goodreads.
Ah yes, Ginmar. I’ve come across this uncouth, aggressive mannered individual on the Amazon forums, and on Goodreads. I’m assuming Ginmar is quite young, s/he certainly acts like a belligerent teenager. S/he is constantly bitching, and arguing with people, especially authors.
Can you just imagine what kind of person Ginmar must be off-line? S/he can’t have a particularly happy life, otherwise why would s/he be arguing ALL the time. I regularly see Ginmar on the Amazon forums, with all of the trolls listed here on STGRB. They get together to attack and sneer at people on the forums. Only a sad, lonely, bitter person would behave like that.
TBH, I often see people, and comments on-line that I don’t agree with, but I don’t start arguing random people just because I don’t agree with them. Life’s too short, if I don’t agree with a review, or a comment, or whatever, I just move on. I’d have no interest in getting into a full scale argument with a stranger on the internet. I have other, nicer, things to to with my day. Whereas Ginmar, and the other trolls, are fighting with people on-line, day in day out, nonstop. The trolls are completely relentless. They obviously have nothing better to do with their time?
I wonder what made Ginmar, and the other trolls so bitter and spiteful? I truly pity people like Ginmar. What a miserable existence s/he lives. *shiver*
Yes, a lot of trolls act like belligerent teens, which makes it even sadder when the majority of them turn out to be in their thirties.
Ginmar is actually old enough to have fought in the first Gul War (her claim) and she suffers from PTSD and hallucinates a lot. A lot of her cultural references are from the 70’s, so she could easily be in her sixties. Here is a link to her LiveJournal page: http://ginmar.livejournal.com/
I wouldn’t put much weight on what ginmar claims. She may have hallucinations but it’s most likely due to her own delusional mind and imagination. She’s a known liar would claim anything to get a crumb of recognition. From reading some of her psychotic ramblings on the internet, she sounds like a delusional old alcoholic.
My mother in law served in the first Gulf War as a master sergeant. She is a 30 year veteran of the US Army. She was in stateside support and, according to her, at that point women were not allowed to serve in combat during that time (1991). However, some women were deployed to Saudi and were allowed to serve in what was called “combat support situations” (medical units, cooks, administrative, supplies, port security, driving trucks and flying helicopters) which put them in harm’s way, of course and some women were killed, as well. Those women were very courageous and ginmar is a DISGRACE to their memory by the fowl venom she spews claiming to be one of them. Screw her and her lies.
Oh, and someone named TezMillerOz wants Ginmar to stop making fun of people who live with their parents: http://tezmilleroz.booklikes.com/post/1145902/small-request
Obviously, ginmar and her kind are a lot of rejected, frustrated people and very possibly failed authors. You can tell by the way they attack authors there is obviously vicious jealousy involved here. It’s something very personal with them. They have actually made a career of it. I honestly believe they are either people who have tried to have books published that may have been rejected numerously and/or indie authors who submitted books to amazon and maybe their work isn’t doing so well. I have seen some reviewers on amazon that just go after indie authors like mad hounds! They are trying to take the ratings down. I usually check out the reviews first before buying a book and I do notice there are particular individuals that make habitual one and two star reviews to all books. They nitpick on little things about the books that have absolutely no bearing on the meat, bones and plot of the story. For instance, “Oh, I read this one paragraph that had a lame conversation between a couple of characters and this was so unrealistic” and blah blah.
You know, just nitpicking on a paragraph when the entire book was really great fiction is kind of stupid I think, anyway. To complain that fiction is unrealistic is even more dense because, isn’t that why we read fiction? To escape into a world of make-believe? Why should it have to be so totally realistic? That would make it boring. Most of the time the troll reviewers will say something like “I did not finish this book”. In my opinion, if they are admitting they did not read it all the way to the end then the review should be deleted by amazon because that is unfair not only to the author but to the other honest readers out there who sometimes actually pay attention to these hate reviews by people like ginmar and her kind, not knowing that they are trolls. Maybe someday amazon will get off their lazy tails and attempt to fix the review system and hopefully goodreads will take a hint and clean it’s act up as well. Frustrating.
Well, said, Anon!
I get it a lot from hard SF groups though, even though even they probably more standards than these … downright bizarre reviewers.
Here is Ginmar’s Disqus profile. I don’t think she’s capable of making a single comment that isn’t full of profanity and sounds unhinged: https://disqus.com/by/ginmar/
I reported the entire profile. There didn’t seem to be the option of blocking.
FYI: Just a little heads up! On that screen shot above of the “TinaNicole” person. I have seen her backing up Ginmar in a few online bully attacks. She seems to pop up as a “back-up bully” when ginmar is getting overwhelmed. So watch for her! She’s either another troll or they are the same person. Tina Nicole and Ginmar are like stink on poop.
One on Roxanne Gay might be good too.
Yup, trolls are usually easy to identify by their lack of a real photo and name. They prey on authors because authors are not anonymous, and most have their full name and photo in plain sight. Puts authors at an immediate disadvantage, because anything they say to trolls will be traced back to them, whereas trolls will simply shut down their bogus account and open a new one. The cycle continues.
Very astute comment. This is precisely the way it works. Pseudonymous bullies punch down against authors using author’s real names, identities and anything they can find online to hurt the author, while they, the bullies, hide every detail about themselves that might be used against them. And just think how these bullies might feel if their children, their parents, their spouses, their bosses, or their fellow employees knew that they spend hours online daily and nightly preying on authors for spite and sport? — Human beings are a species programmed to want and expect fairness. There is no fairness in the world of bullies preying on authors.
Doesn’t that make Jenny Trout’s behavior all the more confusing? In Ginmar’s case, she still hides behind a psuedonym. With Jenny Trout, it’s almost like she doesn’t even case that she uses her picture on social networks and her blog.
Like, I’m honestly surprised authors haven’t tried sueing her given her transparency. Of which she rightly deserves.
Plus imagine what would happen if Ginmar used real information about herself on goodreads. How is threatening people with murder going to look if she had used her real name and picture? Not very appealing to employers.
It’s people like Ginmar that give anonymity a bad name. And I’m absolutely pissed off about it.
If ginmar is making murder threats, she might want to take in consideration that she could wind up in prison soon. From what I understand the FCC may be getting involved in some type of regulation over the internet. This wasn’t done to try to censor but done in response to the overgrowing problem of troll bullies and threats to people online. Also, the FBI has an Internet Crime Complaint Center, designed just for abusers like ginmar. Her phony screen name will NOT protect her because they can find out who she is in less than two minutes. She will find herself looking out of a prison cell if she’s not careful. Death threats are not something most of us take lightly.
Agreed. It absolutely floors me that online bullies have the power to destroy an author’s career overnight. It shouldn’t be so easy to take away someone’s income and livelihood.
You can google those characters like ginmar and her kind and when you actually read over their blogs you get a picture of how sick those people really are. Ginmar has nothing but scrambled eggs for brains. Jenny Trout’s brain is a jigsaw puzzle, as well. They want to push their twisted views off on the rest of the world just so they can believe they are normal humans. They are not. They do not think like rational humans. They think like rabid beasts. It’s really pitiful but their own dirty karma will catch up with them before the legal system does, I am sure.
I published a book on Amazon Kindle and later I saw it listed on Goodreads. Someone had given it 1 star review, yet I hadn’t sold any. So they gave a review of a book they had never read. I just totally ignore Goodreads as even being a competent book website and I’d prefer my books to not be on there, I never asked them to put them there.
