Tag Archive: Bully Hypocrisy

Well, this isn’t a surprise to us.  We’ve seen so many of the bullies pull this kind of hypocritical nonsense before.  John Scalzi, an author who has attacked and berated other authors for promoting/reviewing one another’s books without disclosure, breaks his own code of ethics and does exactly that:

1

2

Sigh.  We could have seen it coming and we’re pretty sure there are more Bullies As Authors who do the exact same thing.

This is a good lesson actually.  You will want to be wary of authors who chastise others for “BBA behavior” which is a fabricated term made up by the bullies and their “code of ethics”.  Authors who do this are opportunists looking to curry favor and are, the majority of the time, guilty of the exact same “BBA behavior”, and usually much worse.

In this post, we want to address something that the bullies have been preaching ever since we started this blog and that’s that we are against negative, critical reviews. Back in mid-2012, when STGRB first went live, the bullies did their best to get us shut down. When they couldn’t, they did everything they could to discredit our site with accusations of bullying, threatening, or harming others. We were accused of doxxing – of publishing people’s address, phone numbers, etc. And we were also accused of being a group of authors who were getting revenge on reviewers who wrote critical reviews of our books. Here is a post we wrote that explains in more detail what happened when we first started our blog.

None of this nonsense was true. It still isn’t.

An example of what we mean is clear as day in an article (a very ill-informed article) written by John Scalzi back in 2012. Without doing any research of our blog or who we really are and what we’re about, John wrote this masterpiece.  Here are some screenshots of it.

So, let’s see exactly what John considers to be negative reviews or criticism of books. These are just a few of the many examples we’ve published on our blog

GinmarBullyReview

RandisBullyReview

TheBunnyReview1

You see, this is what John and the bullies would have you believe – that all of this is criticism of BOOKS, when it is something else, something much worse.  These examples we’ve shown are, in fact, deliberate, premeditated, vicious attacks on people. Not books.

John doesn’t just stop at drinking and preaching the bully Kool-Aid, he is probably one of the bigger bullies we know, whose rants have lead to vicious attacks on authors.

JohnScalziAnneRiceLHamilton

If you want to see what happened to Laurell, just check our her books on and .

John’s abuse doesn’t stop there. We’ve heard from several big name authors that it is truly bad form (as an author) to attack or criticize another author, and yet John, just like Jenny Trout, does this quite often:

Larry

You will note here that Larry declined the Hugo nomination. So that should tell you how well John researches subjects before he goes off on his ill-informed, pious diatribes.

But he doesn’t stop at authors either. He’s been known to be a bully to people in other arenas, outside of the book world:

JohnScalzibashingGamerGate

We don’t want to get involved in the Sad Puppies or GamerGate fight. We simply want to show how John treats other authors and other people.  And when you read his words, you have to ask yourself these questions:

Do they contribute anything to the literary community or any community for that matter?

No.

Are they productive?

No.

Do they help anyone?

No.

All they are are cruel jabs at other authors and other people, and yet John sits there in his ivory tower and preaches on his blog about how righteous he is.

Shame on you, John!

People like John and the rest of the bullies are described very well in the words of one of our loyal blog readers:

“These people…[the bullies]… they contribute nothing to the literary community, to the book world, to the world of those of us who love to read and write books. They’re just in it, parasites, treating it all like a video game! Heaping vulgarity, ugliness and meanness on authors and saying “Take it, or we’ll blacklist and libel you!””

John writes at the end of his article (he is talking to us here, implying that we are going to attack someone on his behalf):

“When I need your help with a negative review, I will ask for it.
If I don’t ask for it, I don’t need your help.
If I do ask for it, you should consider me temporarily out of my head and ignore me.
If you decide to attack someone in my name without consulting me, you make me look bad. That will annoy me, and I may take it out on you, possibly publicly.”

Well, guess what. You don’t have to worry about us trying to help you, because that will never happen. You are a bully, my friend. We would never attack people like you do, especially not on your behalf. And as far as anyone making you look bad, well, that’s already been done.

YOU make you look bad.

And that’s all we’re going to say.

Last week, Anne Rice did something awesome!  She did what authors, readers, bloggers, etc. should all be doing.  She banned the bullies from her FB page and deleted their comments.  Why?  Because they did what they do best — tried to bully her into removing and using our Nenia Campbell blog as an example:

AnnesPost

Once the bullies caught wind of her post, they descended upon her like a pack of wolves in sheep’s clothing pretending to be innocent and/or disinterested third parties.  As expected, they started in with their propaganda and lies, attempting to discourage her from speaking out and from using our post to do it.  They also began leaving Anne links to all their blog posts written two years ago, condemning us for publishing public information on our website.

The list of bullies banned from Anne’s page include: Autumn Turner, Jenny Trout, Cyndy Aleo, Kara Malinczak, Elyse Schramm, Flora Bellini, KarlynP and Amanda Welling.  They were banned for being disruptive and disingenuous as well as telling lies.  We know you’ve all seen their nonsense before, but we’ll still give you a few examples of what we mean.  Just for kicks.

You all remember Autumn Turner, right?  Well, check out what she had to say to Anne regarding her post.  Notice the implied threat at the beginning, “I won’t support your books if you support them”:

AutumnRealID

AutumnRealID1

Then, Athena jumped in to set the record straight and let Anne know about Autumn’s many internet identities and why she was labeled a bully on our blog:

AutumnRealID2

And those identities are:

Misanthrope on Google Blogger

Dragon Wolf on Pinterest

Athena is right.  Autumn was also lying about our hosting company.  We left because we found their rules to be a little too strict.  And, we left on good terms:

Cancellation

Now, how did Anne respond to Autumn’s lies?  Well…

AnneToAutumn

AnneToAutumn2

See how Autumn calls us morons?  Nice, huh?  That’s right, Autumn, whenever you lose an argument, you should always resort to ad hominem attacks.  It works so well.  It doesn’t make you look childish at all.

So, after this, guess what happened!

*drumroll*

That’s right!

Autumn got banned!

😀

Our second example was posted by Nettie Neal Bell who tried to defend Edward Lorn by saying that we wrongly labeled him a bully.  You all remember Troll Edward from Once Upon A Time in the Land of BookLikes, right?  Well, fortunately Athena stepped in to disabuse everyone of Nettie’s silly notion:

EdwardLorn

EdwardLorn2

Finally, our last example is Jenny Trout and the load of lies she tried to feed Anne about how we put people in danger and published their private information, and how we don’t care about authors, how we shot babies and beat up the elderly, and yada yada yada, whatever lie she and her friends could think of to vilify us.  Oh and btw, the “well respected website” she refers to here is Jane Litte’s Dear Author.  *snort*  Guess she forgot to mention Jane’s attack on Nathan Bransford after he spoke out against the bullying on Goodreads (Nathan, too, had mentioned our blog and was attacked for it).  She also forgot to mention how Jane defended the violent reviewers who physically threatened Veronica Roth.

JennyLies

Oh, btw, we’ve never used content from Dear Author, so that’s another lie.  In fact, that’s a new one.  Haven’t seen that one before.

Anyway, this is what Anne had to say to Jenny:

AnneToJenny

And then guess what happened!

*drumroll*

That’s right!

Jenny got banned!

😀

So, in the end, how did Anne respond to all of this nonsense?  Well…

AnneOnSTGRB

AnneOnBullies

We should also mention that the majority of the comments on Anne’s post were overwhelmingly positive toward her message about the bullies and about STGRB, including this one:

GreatSite

Guess what, bullies!  Anne and her followers aren’t stupid.  They can see right through your bullshit and they know what you’re up to.  Unfortunately for you, your tactics are transparent and haven’t fooled anyone.

Now, how did the bullies react to getting banned?  Well… here was Jenny’s very mature reaction:

JennyTrout

The “Smart Bitches” whose self-description is only half right (and we’re not referring to the “smart” half), had this to say:

SBSarah

Uh… no, Sarah the Smart Bitch.  She doesn’t have a narrow view of book reviewing.  She just has an honest and honorable view of it, unlike you and the cretins you hang out with online.  She also knew Jenny’s “information” was a load of horse manure.

Now… Sarah the Smart Bitch, if you’re going to write a blog post, you should really publish the facts.  The facts are that we published public information on our blog.  We never published private information or addresses or phone numbers or anything of that nature, unlike some of your bully friends who’ve done that to several authors we know and who have also physically called and threatened them.  The fact is that we only published real names if they had previously been made public and publishing someone’s real name is not PII, nor is it illegal.  Publishing their real name in conjunction with their address, phone number, IP address, etc. is PII.  Yet you bullies seem to be missing this fact.  You seem to be having a problem getting your facts straight in general, don’t you?  And here we thought you were “smart bitches”.  Hmm…

Apparently not.

Furthermore, Sarah the Smart Bitch, we here at STGRB have a feeling that Anne doesn’t give a flying #$%! about what you or Jenny Trout or any of your bully friends have to say about her.  Anne Rice is a superstar.  And you?  Well… you’re not.  Anne has millions of readers and millions of followers who understand perfectly well the message she is trying to convey.  Why?  Because they’ve seen your lies and your drama and your bullying and they’ve had enough.  We’ve all had quite enough.

Anne is absolutely right.  You need to get out of the business of bullying and leave authors and other readers alone!

****************************************************************************

P.S. Hey, bullies!  Since you seem to like this cartoon so much, we’ll show it to you again as a reminder of what will keep happening to you when you act like jerks online:

ToTheDoor

Bully Hypocrisy

We received a couple comments just recently on our blog we thought deserved a mention:

SomeGuyAnonyMe

What cartoon are they talking about? This one:

ToTheDoor

We have to agree with Some Guy and Anony Me. They hit the nail right on the head.

Below is a post written by one of our blog readers, Anon92X, that really gets to the heart of the matter when it comes to the bullies, their hypocrisy, and their “freedom of speech”.

***************************************************************************************

First things first. Here’s some of the screenshots I promised of Ridley and KarlynP using the word ‘retarded’ as if it were perfectly acceptable.

1

1a

There are more (in Karlyn’s case, lots more!), but these are enough to prove the point.

For some time, crazed blogger Angela has made banning the R word her particular hobby horse. She attacked one author in the past, and lately she has been leading the charge against author Mysti Parker for using it. If you look at the BBA Whisperer facebook page, you’ll see she has a photo of something called ‘Blogging Against Disablism.’ It’s funny in a disturbing sort of way, but not as funny as Ridley’s self-description on her Booklikes profile: “As someone who uses a wheelchair, she takes a particular interest in disability themes.”

When I warned in an earlier comment that I might post Ridley and Karlyn’s names if Angela kept attacking people, Angela tried to pre-empt me:

4

It’s no use for Angela to suggest that she doesn’t approve of ‘trolls’ using that word. Ridley and KarlynP are not ‘trolls’ – at least not by Angela’s standards. They are well-respected members of the BBA mob that has been terrorizing authors for years on Goodreads, Amazon, and now Booklikes. KarlynP is in the top 10,000 Amazon reviewers, and the top 100 Goodreads reviewers. Both of them were around long before Angela came along and decided to boost her profile by attacking SPAs. They have both used that word more than once. Why didn’t anybody say anything?

Because it’s all bullshit.

None of them care about how hurtful the word ‘retarded’ can be. But they do know that it’s politically incorrect to use it. So when an SPA uses it, it’s a smart tactical move to pretend shock and indignation. Kind of like Captain Renault in Casablanca, Angela likes to pretend she is shocked, shocked! To find anyone using that word. And not just Angela.

3

And that’s what makes them, but especially Angela, so disgusting. It’s all about what will strategically advance her ’cause.’  So when Mysti Parker, who just happens to be a rival Fantasy author, makes a slip of the tongue, Angela pounces on her, eager to destroy a rival under the guise of fighting for the rights of the disabled.

This is especially disturbing in light of their much touted defense of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech, as anyone knows, is freedom to use offensive speech. If ‘reviewers’ can shelve books under offensive titles, then it should be okay to use the word ‘retarded.’

But this was never about freedom of speech. This was about self-appointed mobs out to police other people’s behavior. Some of the worst offenders are SPAs like Angela, who thinks she can advance her career by attacking other SPAs. She should ask authors like Stacia K. or Anne S. how well it worked for them.

You all remember Derrick from the attack on Lauren Pippa/Howard when he rated/reviewed her unreleased book, right?  If you don’t remember, we’ll show you some screenshots we took:

That’s right.  He’s the little weasel who sparked the whole blow up with Lauren Howard that ran like wildfire through the media.  Well, check out this GR Feedback Discussion called , where the OP says:

OP

Then, scroll down to :

DerrickHypocrisy

Unbelievable, right?

The bullies’ hypocrisy goes on and on and on…

Why are we calling this Bully Hypocrisy, Part Five Million?  Because at this point, we have completely lost track of how many times the bullies have either broken , contradicted themselves, or flat out created such bullshit double standards, it is almost unfathomable that they still show their faces in public.  And whose faces are we talking about?  A LOT of them, some we haven’t seen in a while.

It all started when we received this message by Lost:

Saw this, didn’t know if you had yet or not.

To which I said:

Wow, we haven’t seen a nest of trolls that big in a long time.  It’s so interesting that the drama on GR always seems to revolve around them.  And they never get it, do they?

And then Anony:

Yeah, it’s because they’re a bunch of hateful little bitches.  That’s all that really needs to be said.  Furthermore, the hypocrisy of these people astounds me.  They can harass this reviewer on Amazon for stating his opinion, but when it happens to them, oh no, it’s a crime.

SO hypocritical!

So, what can you find when you click the link above?  Well, you find a review written by a GR member named Khanh (okay, we know that name evokes images of Star Trek, but please don’t go there, you’ll only ruin the movie for yourself :) ).  And of course, Khanh’s review is your typical one-star, scathing, spiteful, this-book-is-worse-than-dog-shit review.  You know, the norm on GR for any book that is popular and actually worth reading.

Okay, so, you with us so far?  Good.

Now, the reason Anony calls the bullies hypocrites (and he’s right btw) is because of our post Amazon Fora Trolls Harass Reviewer where we show you an example of the bully trolls (who all belong to the same ), harassing a reviewer on Amazon.

If you read through Khanh’s review and the attached comments (if you can bear losing a few brain cells), you will see that at first everything goes rather smoothly with Khanh’s friends gushing all over her “great” review, congratulating her, thanking her, and patting her on the back.  *eyeroll*

Then, someone named Rose comes along and rains on their joyous parade:

Rose

And what do the trolls automatically assume?

JennyJenSP

Litchick

And… the onslaught begins.  You all know by now what that means for this author who probably doesn’t even know what’s happening.  But do you notice a pattern here?  On Bookman’s Amazon , they jump in and criticize him for his review.  Then, they start making claims that he’s an author under a sock-puppet account.  Now, on Khanh’s review, they immediately jump on the person who criticized her review and do the exact same thing — start making claims that it’s a sock puppet of the author.

You see that?  It’s always the evil author whether it’s an actual reviewer or an author.  Hmm… *scratches chin*  This is like author-paranoia.

Then, sadly, another person (who is an author) steps in and makes a brave attempt to talk some reason to the psycho trolls who by now are having a party smearing Michelle Pickett and her book:

Kate

After this, the trollnado truly goes wild.  If you choose to read the whole thing, you better get a nice big bag of popcorn and sit back to enjoy the show.  But for your reading enjoyment, we decided to get a snapshot of a few quotable pearls (disclaimer: the idiocy of the following comments may cause the reader either dizziness, convulsions or seizures, so proceed at your own risk; we cannot be held responsible :) ):

JennyJenResponseToKate

SkylaResponseToKate

BarbaraOnGinmar

LitchickToBarbara

And then, guess who comes crawling out from under her rock:

HolyTerrorOpininIsNeverWrong

Wow!  We haven’t seen her nasty mug since last year when she went into hiding and became Mistress Owlpoo, who inevitably got slapped on the hand by Wikipedia for trying to libel Dougie Brimson on his Wiki page.  Y’all remember that?

But you notice how she says:

An opinion of a book is NEVER wrong. Telling a reviewer how to review though, is.

Well, okay then.  You got that Mahala, Anna K. and company?  So maybe you all should go back over to Bookman’s review that you criticized/attacked and apologize to him.  If you’ve forgotten where it is, here’s the , girls.

Anyhow, back to the bully attack…

So after this, what do they do?

What they do best.  They blacklist Kate and start trashing her books.

Sorry, Kate.  We know you were just trying to put things right, but morons like these will never see reason, even if it falls out of the sky and does an interpretive dance on their face.  The fact is that they are just too stupid.  Plain and simple.

Anyhow, for Kate’s side of the story, read The Frightening Side of Book Reviews, where she says:

But then I did something really, really stupid. I engaged.

For the record, NEVER respond to negative reviews of your own work. I don’t. No author should. But this *wasn’t* my book, and I just wanted to mention that the character who doesn’t speak English at first learns fast, and the fact that she didn’t speak it from the start made sense. I also asked people not to post profane personal attacks. And I mentioned my connection to SHP, since that’s the disclosure policy when any SHP editor, publicist, etc. posts on a review site.

*face palm*

Yeah, I know.

As you might expect, everyone then turned on me. They decided to mark all or her books–as well as all of my books–“not-for-me.”

They called me several unflattering things. One even tweeted a link to the let’s-call-Kate-several-unflattering-things thread to Twitter.

*sigh*

We’ve seen this way too many times.  But in the end, Kate is right.  DO NOT engage with these people.  It is a MASSIVE waste of time.  These trolls are psychotic.  They are well known in the book community for spewing hatred wherever they go and imposing ridiculous rules on everyone else who is not part of their online gang, while at the same time breaking these so called rules whenever they see fit.  Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.  So stay very, very far away from them.  Please, pass the word around.  We hate seeing bully gang attacks like this.

You all remember the bully “” as outlined by Looney, right?  If not, here it is:

CodeOfHonour

These are essentially the “rules” according to the Amazon Fora Trolls (also known as the Amazon Review Mafia or ARM).  Oh, and btw, if you remember, Looney broke these “rules” twice, here and here.

Okay so, get this.  We just recently received a link to a review where the other trolls broke the code, too.  Here’s the :

Review

In the comments that follow the review, you will notice a few familiar names.  At first, Mayhem and Anna K. jump in to harass the reviewer, calling him names and reprimanding him for several “offenses” (offenses the bullies have been guilty of for years, that is, reviewing a book they haven’t fully read).  Then, the trolls start accusing the reviewer of being an author until Coaxial jumps in and calls that theory into question.  The whole thing is quite ridiculous, but we thought we’d include it for everyone’s amusement:

Comment1

Comment2

Comment3

Comment4

Comment5

Notice the comment by Coaxial (the self-appointed grammar police): “haven read some of his work”?  We about died laughing at that.

Now, do we agree with this review?  No, we don’t.  Those of us here at STGRB who have read Flat Out Love (i.e. Athena and Stitch) say that it is a fantastic book.  In fact, it’s so good, even Jeff Bezos recommended it.  However, does this guy have the right to state his opinion?  Yes, he does.  Although we don’t agree with the manner in which he does it, he still has a right to state his opinion without being harassed.

Have we seen the trolls harass reviewers before?  Yep!  You all remember Chris who left a review of Katherine Ashe’s book in Reviewer Subterfuge?  Well, the trolls harassed Chris to the point where he eventually just asked Amazon to remove his account altogether.  This is precisely the reason we started .  To keep the trolls from harassing not just authors, but also other reviewers.  It needs to stop. (If you haven’t already signed, please click the link above.)

So beware when you’re roaming the fora.  The trolls are a nasty lot.  For all their self-professed sainthood, they really have earned their name.

Before we begin with our post today, we want to share with you a new development on GR.  Apparently, GR wants to know how customers rate them:

RateGROne of our visitors already filled out the form and had this to say:

I received a GR “survey” today and was happy to tell them my low opinion of their pathetic, anti-writer site.  They’ve done nothing less than create a stalking and trolling playground for sociopaths.  It’s beyond me what the point of all this mass hatred of writers is.  I don’t know if it is fueled by other authors, or just the usual conspiracy of dunces.

Anyway, it’s good to know you guys are here.  I think the best way to influence Goodreads is to stop using their site completely.  Those of us who do well with Amazon may want to see if we can influence things on that side of the great divide.  Beyond that, I think GR is a lost cause.

If any of our readers want to join in and let GR know what you think, just click on this link.  We’ve also posted a link to the survey on our sidebar.

Now, on to business…

In our last post, GR Silences Authors, Part 1, we showed you the story of an author who spoke out against the abuse on GR and was banned for it.  Now we want to show you the whiny feedback discussion started by , one of the bullies on our BBG list.

As you read, please take note of a couple points.  One, everything these bullies accuse authors of doing (i.e. stalking and harassing, getting their friends to stalk and harass, etc.) is absolutely false.  We never see authors doing this.  But!  We’ve seen on countless occasions the bullies doing it not just to authors, but to anyone who stands against them.  Two, these dumb asses still seem to think the reaction to them is about negative reviews.  It’s not.  It’s about their vicious and ceaseless personal attacks against others.  This is a point they never seem to get.  Finally, we have honestly lost track of how many times we’ve caught the bullies in their pious hypocrisy, not to mention their incessant lying.  In the from the GR feedback forum, you will see this come out glaringly in their words:

Comments1

Comments2

Then Kara responds with this:

Kara

We’d like to draw your attention to where she says:

Blog posts on Goodreads that seek to harass or intimidate individual reviewers do violate our Terms of Service and the appropriate action will be taken.

Gosh, that’s funny, Kara, because that’s exactly what Angela did in  and yet strangely enough, nothing happened to her post or her account.

Oh, but wait!  That’s right!  I forgot.  She’s one of you, isn’t she?  So she can harass anyone she wants and get away with it.  Silly me.  I should have known.

Anyhow, back to the whiners:

Now at this point, we would tell you why all of this whiny bullshit is so hypocritical, but we don’t have to because Annabeth took the words right out of our mouths:

Well said, Annabeth!

And then the whining continues.  Notice how Jim says something very insightful here.  Apparently, he gets it — there’s a reason these bullies end up on troll alert lists.

Comments10

Oh no!  He said our name!  What are we going to do?  We’re supposed to be the blog that shall not be named!  😀

After this ultimate faux pas by Jim, the bullies truly go crazy.  Guess he really hit a nerve:

STGRB is vile trash?  Why?  Because we tell the truth about you?

You notice the outright lies these people tell when our site is mentioned?  That we do all of this shit that we’ve never done (also referring to Lucy’s phantom phone caller).  This is their usual MO.  They’ve been trying to discredit our site ever since we started.  By this time, their lies have gotten old.

Finally, after the discussion degenerates into an I-hate-STGRB frenzy, Emily ends the conversation because it has become “unproductive”:

Emily

And that’s it!

Whiny, whiny, whiny bullies!  They will never grow up.

But in all seriousness, we believe that this is just the beginning to a bigger issue that we see evolving on GR.  That is the growing hatred of authors and the silencing of their voices when they try to speak out against the abuse and injustice that is done to them.

A lot has been happening on GR recently, not the least of which a campaign being launched by the bullies to silence authors who speak up about the abuse on the site.  And not surprisingly, the GR mods are playing along.  But before we get into this, we have some news for you, some good, some not so good:

1. It appears as though our Twitter stalker (remember her – the one who stood in line to get concert tickets while she furiously sent us insane tweets one after the other?  Yeah, her!) has finally gotten her just desserts.  We were contacted by one of our sources who told us that she and her husband are being investigated by the police for crimes against an author (i.e. death threats, etc.):

AmandaWellingGone

AmandaWellingInvestigated

It’s true, if you check her blog and , they’re completely gone.  This isn’t the first time the bullies have physically threatened someone.  Just take a look at our post Bully Threats and you’ll see a few there.

2. An author (and her husband) who was attacked last year, with whom we have had contact ever since, has just recently reported to us that someone has been consistenly hacking her Facebook and email accounts.  She and her husband have the FBI looking into it:

EmailHacked

FBI

And again, this isn’t the first time the bullies have tried to hack into accounts (this time succeeding).  We’ve shown that they tried it on our hosting account in Bully Crime.

3. We were informed just recently that another author we know has had her books banned from Dear Author because she “associates with that site.”  Apparently Jane Litte seems to think that authors who are affiliated with our site are too much of a danger to her reviewers.  We died laughing when we heard that.  She doesn’t realize that they are a danger to themselves because of the way they behave, like harassing and baiting authors for instance (click here and scroll down to view screenshots of this).

Give it up, Janey!  Everyone knows about you and your reviewers.  They can see right through you.

4. We were given a link by a site visitor to an article written by Tamara Ward about a Q&A session between authors and GR staff.  Tamara’s post starts with this:

Hello, WG2E-land! Last week, Goodreads staff held office hours, an online session where both the Goodreads author marketing coordinator, Cynthia Shannon, and director, Patrick Brown, answered questions from writers. Writers could ask questions live or post them beforehand on the discussion thread.

I’ve tried to hit the highlights of the office hours in this post, but if you want to read the blow-by-blow, visit the group discussion on Goodreads at . Better yet, join the group at ! Though discussion on last week’s office hours has been frozen, perhaps, in the future, Goodreads staff will have another session.

If you scroll down a bit on the page, you will see that a few authors who know what’s really going on chimed in with their concerns:

If you read the Q&A session by clicking the links Tamara gives, you will notice how they conveniently avoid talking about the real problem that plagues GR, namely the GR bullies and their consistently vicious attacks on authors.

And this brings us to the point of our post.  Look at the link Rick left to a Goodreads feedback discussion called .  You’ll see some familiar names.  This is just the beginning of what appears to be a growing campaign on GR to silence authors.

Once such author, , was silenced by the GR staff when the trolls began an attack on him and then reported to him the GR mods on trumped up charges:

JoelEmail1

JoelEmail2

Why was he reported and banned?  Because he wrote blog posts (on his own blog!) speaking out about the GR/Amazon trolls:

Accused Of Spamming

The Trolls Arrive!

And the attack ensued:

Shelves

Shelves2

And then:

BanMessage

And there you have it!  GR does not allow authors freedom of speech.  If they speak up about the abuse happening on the site, they are silenced.

For tomorrow’s post, GR Silences Authors, Part 2, we will be talking more about the GR feedback discussion mentioned above called .

Stay tuned!
