Well, apparently, Goodreads is still in the process of cleaning things up. We were just alerted to a user interface change being implemented on the Goodreads community book pages. Emily lays it out in a GR Feedback discussion:
And what does this mean as far as the trolls are concerned? Well, you remember all the nasty shelving that once polluted the book pages of authors who had become troll targets? Guess where they are now?
That’s right! Gone! As one commenter on the feedback thread remarks:
To give you an example, here’s a screenshot of three well-known trolls who’ve just “added” a book by an author they are targeting simply because she made a comment on an anti-troll blog post.
Of course, if you click on the individual links like “added it” or “rated it”, it will take you to a page where the shelves appear, but for the most part, all the trolls’ nasty shelving has been effectively wiped off the Goodreads community book pages.
Good job, GR!
And how do the rest of the Goodreads members feel about this? Well…
Nuff said.
Now if we could only get all the one-star hits on our book ratings removed. I know, I know, I live in hope.
Overall, this does help with the one stars as they will sit below a written review, giving a written review more validity and weight. I personally read reviews and shrug off the star system.
I would like to see “reviews with text” as the default for both the display AND the aggregate rating. That would give a better gauge of what people who read a book think of it.
And yet another nail in the bully coffin. Over the past two years, more and more changes have been implemented to further prevent them from abusing the review system. Gone are the days of misleading potential, honest, readers who just want to discover a great book and author. In the end, the ONLY thing they achieved was to force websites to change their TOS to prevent further abuse.
Virgina Court ruling on fake reviews, if “the reviewer was never a customer of the business, then the review is not an opinion; instead, the review is based on a false statement” In other words, it is a LIE. The nails just keep on coming, don’t they? Happy New Year!
Yeah, we heard about that. It’s awesome news! We may do a post on it soon.

It is great to see GR making such a big effort to get rid of troll reviews/shelves, GR are even getting rid of the trolls themselves. The majority of GR members already love this new set up, I imagine the trolls will do their usual whining about it, but I’m guessing they are slowly but surly getting the message. GR isn’t their playground anymore, plenty of room over in BL for them, plenty of room!
