Well it looks like our last post on Jenny Trout bashing Anna Todd hasn’t gone unnoticed by the jealous author and her bully friends. Yesterday, they took to Twitter in a frenzy. Jenny even thanked us.
Aw, wasn’t that sweet of her?
You don’t have to thank us, Jenny. We were happy to do it. You know, it says a lot that a young woman of 25 years is conducting herself in a much more mature manner than you are. We’re not surprised she’s so successful. Hey, here’s an idea! Maybe once you grow up, you’ll be able to follow in her footsteps and be successful, too!
Maybe.
In the meantime, everyone, we get to enjoy her self-glorifying conversations with her fellow Twitter bully buddies:
This one reminded us of some of the comments on Jenny’s Anna-bashing blog rant:
And we absolutely loved the irony of this one written by Rick Gualtieri, the king of idiotic bullshit:
You’ll all remember Rick as the indie author who defended reviewers who threatened Lauren Pippa. We came across Rick when we discovered he was a member of Angela Horn’s Asshat group back before her group was dissolved and she was banned from Goodreads. Rick’s a real joy to be around if you’re a member of the low class troll population, aka the GR exiles and the BookLikes Bullies. Otherwise, we recommend steering clear of him.
So, you see that, folks? Ad hominem attacks, insults, jokes… this is about what we expected from them because it’s the kind of thing that the bullies do whenever they are called out on their behavior. Instead of realizing their mistakes and apologizing, or even responding with a well-placed and reasonably sound counter argument that would reflect some sort of intellectual sophistication, they resort to what they do best — self-projected gibes and failed mockery.
Sigh.
Ah well, as one of our new blog readers always says, haters gonna hate.
Childish.
They are bitter, angry children who can only get attention by acting badly. I had one actually trumpet her identity to me — “Yes, I am Angela Trumpet” — as if I should immediately bow down to her.
These poor speshul snowflakes are so sensitive, they can’t bear writers responding to tell them the truth. Thus, they try to make people afraid of them. Very, very sad.
Jenny claims she suffers from daddy issues? Well, guess what. My dad was a jerk, too. I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years and yet I don’t go around telling other people they don’t deserve their success. Get over yourself, Jenny! No one wants to hear your sob story and no one thinks it gives you the right to bash others because you’re jealous. Grow up!
I believe she was trying to be sarcastic. All of them are. It’s rude.
If that’s true, then it’s even worse. I don’t find it funny to joke about stuff like that. I was abused by my dad when I was a kid. To joke about something like that just isn’t funny.
I’m sorry you had that experience when you were young. No one should ever have to go through that. The fact that Jenny and her friends make this out to be a joke is sick. I don’t find it funny either.
I can’t understand why the trolls have to be so nasty all of the time? It’s ok not to like a book, it’s ok to give a book a one star review. But mocking and jeering an author is just pure nastiness. There is no need for it. They really seem to have it in for Anna Todd. There is no need for their playground behaviour.
She’s just jealous because Anne Rice publicly congratulated Anna while blocking HER.
Now she’s alienated herself from the professional writing world. And Anna and Anne both have close ties to the biggest publishing companies.
It’s funny, really. Her whole complaint is that she can’t get a deal while Anna COULD. And because of her actions, now she never will no matter what she does. Hilarious.
I think it’s more about being angry that someone who does a project on the side just has money thrown at them, as opposed to a writer who works for years trying to perfect a story for agents and publishers, because they’re told that’s the standard expected of them.
Sort of a Salieri vs Mozart thing.
That’s not Anna’s fault that Jenny’s failed miserably at that. She’s taking her anger out on a younger, more successful writer who didn’t ask for any of that. Good things happen to good people, it just takes a while for some while others are fortunate to encounter a stroke of good luck such as Anna.
I agree with you.
Where I disagree with Ms. Trout is that I don’t think Anna’s success changes anything. Had Anna sent the book in its online form to publishers, I’m sure it would have been rejected out of hand. But she didn’t (or didn’t stop there, if she did). She published it online and developed a following for it. She basically handed publishers an audience.
I knew someone in college who got an agent by basically selling a screenplay first. The agent didn’t require the usual process in his case because he, the agent, already knew he had guaranteed money.
Any ordinary manuscript, however, is a risk, no matter how well or how badly written it is. And with no guarantees, it’s safer and more efficient to play the odds. Why burn lots of time on a manuscript that needs a ton of work before it even meets minimum standards? The odds are it’s just a waste of time. Which is why all those “rules” Ms. Trout thinks are being broken here are in place.
But they aren’t being broken. Anna just bypassed them.
So, yeah, I guess publishers could add one more rule to the list: “These rules apply to everyone — except those who can drop a truckload of buyers into our hands without any effort on our part.” But you’d think people could figure that one out for themselves.
It still doesn’t give Jenny a right to ridicule and take her anger out on someone who got lucky just because she has a problem with the publishing industry.
Let’s take “rights” out of it. She can say whatever she wants. Others can agree or disagree.
My point was that her “problem with the publishing industry” isn’t a legitimate one. The publishing industry still has more or less the same rules as it has always had. Anna didn’t change that.
What I wonder is, Is she right that the book (manuscript) isn’t any good? I haven’t read it and Ms. Trout’s chapter-by-chapter “analysis” quickly grew boring for me. Has anyone here read it? What did you think? (I ask, because if the thing sucks, that at least helps explain Ms. Trout’s anger.)
A couple of points, Brian. Good or bad is really in the eye of the beholder. You could read the book and hate it and yet the book has millions of reads on Wattpad, so somebody thought it was good. A lot of people hated Twilight and yet millions of people read and loved it. One person’s trash is another’s treasure. Also, Jenny’s harsh criticism of Anna’s work has a lot to do with the fact that Jenny is jealous of her success. Would she be reading Anna’s book if it hadn’t become this huge thing? Probably not. It doesn’t seem like the type of book that Jenny and her friends would enjoy as it seems to be written by and written for people in a much younger age group.
Just one point: things we believe are crap that become successful can upset us, for a number of different reasons. You seem very committed to the idea of Jenny Trout’s jealousy. But what about the issue of the book’s quality? Is it crap? What’s your subjective opinion? Or haven’t you read it?
IMO, the book isn’t bad, but you can tell it’s written for a young audience. And the criticism saying the grammar and punctuation were terrible is blown WAY out of proportion. There are a few mistakes, but they’re not that bad. Also, we’re convinced of Jenny’s jealousy because she flat out said she was jealous, so that was kind of a giveaway.
She’s just proving to everyone what kind of nasty person she is. Who in their right mind would do a series of blog posts, fair enough seven (still seven too many, she shouldn’t have done any) dedicated solely to ridicule a young writer? If she felt like having a rant about Anna and her success, then just do a rant and leave it at that. Instead, Jenny is going out of her way to read Anna’s manuscript just to make fun of it and her writing. Nobody should be abused like that. It’s very vulgar. Jenny is older, she should know better.
Also, her sarcasm is the most annoying thing I’ve seen in quite some time. Wow, she’s ridiculous. Making the whole thing about how STGRBs has made a post about her and ignoring the fact that STGRBs just demonstrated what she was doing. The whole sarcasm with “oh my god STGRBs saw my post and cleverly worked out I was jealous.” No. The title of the post was “Jenny Trout Admits Jealousy”. Plain and clear, you admitted being jealous and it was in the freakin’ title! Yeah, I’m annoyed with her sarcasm. Just, ugh, no! FELICITY. OUT.
By attacking the grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. of Anna’s manuscript, Jenny and her friends are really making themselves look foolish. Has anyone here ever used Wattpad? I would describe it as a “creative writing website”. It’s a website where you write your story in rough draft, let me say that again, ROUGH DRAFT, and publish it for your friends to read and critique. Because Anna acquired millions of followers and reads, publishers took note and that’s how she was picked up by Simon & Schuster. People need to do their research about Wattpad and how it works before they start criticizing someone for the condition of their manuscript. Not only are these people mean and jealous, they’re ignorant and that’s a really bad combination.
I wonder if Jenny is even aware that Wattpad is a place where you post your FIRST DRAFTS.
Yes, your FIRST DRAFTS. Your UNEDITED manuscript.
She’s reading it like it’s a completely edited, published novel, which isn’t what actually happens on Wattpad. WP is for first-draft beta reading.
Doesn’t matter if she knows it or not. She would still be nasty toward Anna because of bitter jealousy. I wonder, if the tables were turned, and someone declared Jenny’s success to be undeserved, how would she feel? I imagine it wouldn’t be pretty.
I don’t think this idiotic kid realises how pathetic she’s being. I’m a 16 year old girl acting like a 10 year old boy and I’m still more mature than she is. It’s starting to piss me off how she laughs and jokes about things she isn’t supposed to joke about. And that Rick guy – what is he, like 40 years old? Disgusting! I’m really hoping her twitter gets suspended because I am 100% done with all of her bullshit.
